Flywheel!?

I was on the DDM site and came across the aluminum flywheel for $535 and was pretty excited after hearing the stock is 25 lbs

Well I didn't see any threads about this so does anyone plan on going with it? Or does preloader already have it lol

And how big would the benefits be?

Not only does the stocker weigh 25 pounds, but it has a sprung friction center. Yes you read that right.

If you've ever wondered why the sonic doesn't jerk hard when you dump the clutch like every other manual youve driven, that is why.

Yes, I liked the rigid, but it was poorly designed and the rivets broke.

If I knew for sure it wouldn't break, I'd go with the rigid, but then again, I don't mind having a car that is undrivable for most people.

The rigid is not for most people.

that sentence was kind of redundant lol. Cool, i may go flywheel + clutch vs bolt ons... well in means of order anyway. Christmas is my countdown for completion until stronger internals come out

If I could go back and start over. I would have done the flywheel an clutch before everything else....... Except for the initial tune.

The stock clutch and fly are designed for today's average economy consumer. It feels like there is a 30lbs melted marshmallow connecting the engine to the trans.

To me it feels like my motor mounts are broken because the clutch engagement and more importantly disengagement are so on off

Plus you need to upgrade the clutch if you're going to be seriously increasing the power the engine can produce... Vince won't let you have the Red Pill with a stock clutch

I may have asked this before but I can't remember, my memory is shot.

The stock flywheel is designed to absorb vibrations from the engine more than anything right? Thats what I found when I looked up dual mass flywheels.

I always thought it was to make the gear shifts more smooth.

For what it is worth, the new Stingray manual transmission has a dual mass flywheel. I t also has a dual clutch, maybe to make up for the flywheel.

Would be nice if someone would use a wet multiplate clutch in a car.
