Porting the Intake Manifold

you just need to clear the codes after you do it.

I did mine without removing the whole manifold from the car, just sort of tilted it up. Did Keith's like that too.

How much did you have to disconnect to tilt it?

I'm looking at doing this but full removal is a bit daunting.

Eric, did you use a compressor to blow out the manifold after grinding on it? I'm assuming you plugged all the passages in the head as well.

Honestly, it was just removing everything up to the stuff on the bottom and tilting it up.

I plugged the runner tubes and the head tubes but wasn't too worried about it. Any tiny shred of plastic that found its way through would be annihilated with the first combustion stroke.

From what I take from the thread, it's hard to get a lot of the rubber and plastic hoses loose and that's why Eric just unbolted it, rotated it and then went to town on the tumblers.

There are 2 problematic areas with this mod...

1. Undoing the lower vacuum hoses and lines.they're a biotch! A long pair of needle nose pliers makes it not so bad.

2.preventing debris/swarf from getting into the intake.... Paper towels shoved into the runners do wonders, as does a vacuum or judicial application of water and cleaning

exactly. the first problem is why I just tilted and grinded.

Pulling it out all the way was a p.I.t.a. but IMHO the only way to do it. I understand that the plastic will just get burnt up and blow through but why risk it?

Take your time and do it right its worth it.

Thought about doing this today. After taking 3 1/2 hours to put on mud flaps and rotate tires, I figured porting the IM would take a week.....oh what a day.

Btw I'm still doing it, this is the view that I have by just tilting the intake rather than full removal

is this residue normal? I drove it for an hour about 2 hours ago
