2013 Sonic emission control sticker recall

I just got a letter in the mail today with a new vehicle emission control sticker inclosed from GM.It reads that certain 2013 Sonics left the factory with an incorrect emission flex fuel label.Apparently the Sonics can not use E85 so they want those affected with the wrong label to place the new label reading Gasoline over the old label.Anybody have a sonic with the flex fuel emission label will get one of these new stickers.

I received the same notice in the mail today along with the updated label for my 2013 1.4.

I had always wondered why the emissions label under the hood showed it was FFV when these cars certainly are not designed or recommended to run E85 from the factory. I guess this explains it.

Kudos to GM for mailing out the labels instead of making us go into the dealer for its replacement. Now if I can only get the new one installed perfectly straight... opcorn:

Just checked my underhood label and looks like I've got a new sticker coming too! If I put it on the outside will that add 5 hp or does that only work with aftermarket product stickers?

It will subtract 5HP unless installed correctly.

I should not admit this, but I got the sticker, went out and popped the hood, and it took a full minute for me to realize there was no sticker that needed to be covered!

The engine can handle 85, not components such as fuel line. The 1.4T itself is listed as 85 capable in the GM VIN lists.

If the Sonic's fuel lines can not handle E85 why are so many 2012's running it? Or was it a change for '13?

It is not if the line can handle it but for how long. I can see people running E85 for ten or twenty thousand miles without incident. The problem will be when the line dissolves allowing stray molecules of combustible material to wander freely in an engine compartment.

I have read posts that the 2013 line was upgraded but now I am wondering. This would be a good task for Chevrolet Customer Service who work inside the GM Building and have a better chance of finding what component needs upgrading than most of us. I would rather kmow what else needs upgraded to run E85 than read about what might happen if not.

I posted about how the stock rubber line in my 2012, laborsmith you might remember it in yours, was replaced at no charge by the dealership to the braided line that is in the Sonic bay now.

Yep, and that post was in my mind when I wondered if there is something else also needed. I am pretty sure I have the braided line in my RS yet I also got a sticker.
