PCV line passes thru Intake Manifold?

Has anyone removed the intake manifold on the 1.4T yet? I was curious where the PCV line goes after it goes in between the #2 and #3 intake tubes in the manifold.

Does it connect to an oil passage that runs down from the head to the block?
Or does it pass thru the manifold and connect to the block to vent the crankcase? opcorn:

LS1notFOUND, on the 1.4T, the PCV enters the intake upstream of the turbo, out in front of the engine. That way it is always pulling a vacuum.

What I was asking about was where does the other end of the hose connect to vent the crankcase, it goes in between the intake manifold tubes #2 and #3. When I finally get around to doing my oil change, I'll take a peak from under the car to try to see where the line connects to the crankcase.

The tube does not pass through the intake on the rear of the engine, but terminates right before it in a fitting that enters the valve cover area from the side.

Not sure what tube you are looking at, but take a look at my pictures and you'll see where it starts.

Hey Danny5, I just ran out to my car to make sure I was not going crazy...

Either our 1.4T engines are different or you are mistaken. I snapped some pictures. Camera phones are awesome!

The PCV does not terminate in the valve cover area. If you remove the 'Ecotec' plastic cover, you'll see it's no where near the valve cover. You may be confusing the PCV hose with the wire harness that goes under the plastic cover. See pictures

The PCV line goes into a cavity in the intake manifold.
Please do not misunderstand me, I am NOT saying the PCV line goes into the intake flow. It goes into some kind of cavity between intake tubes #2 & #3.

My theory is they molded a cavity into the plastic intake manifold which covers a hole in the back side of the head between intake ports #2 & #3. This hole is open to one of the passages that lets oil drain back from the head to the oil pan. Maybe this cavity has some baffles which act to collect the oil mist so the oil, which would have been lost, can drain back into the oil pan?

I found a pic on cruzetalk of the intake manifold 'footprint' where it mates up to the head. The intake manifold has a cavity in between the #2 and #3 intake tubes that the PCV draws from, see pic. The PCV tube connects to this cavity from the top (see previous post pics) This cavity must be open to a hole in the head to a passage for the oil returning to the pan.

When people were talking about aftermarket air/oil seperators, I was wondering if you could put some metal screen mesh inside that cavity (making sure it can't fall into the engine). The mesh would catch the oil mist and allow it to drip back into the oil system but let the water vapor and unburnt fuel vapor out to the PCV system to the intake, upstream of the turbo.

Just wondering if that would work?

I would think any moisture gets boiled out pretty quick and is negligible.

LS1notFOUND, the moisture inside the crank case is already 'boiled'. The water vapor is a product of combustion, so a small amount squeezes past the rings every combustion cycle. So there is new water vapor coming in continuously, this is not just a start-up thing. The water is in vapor form and can go right into the intake thru the PCV system if it does not condense out on a cool surface along the way...

The majority of what people are seeing build up in there aftermarket external AOS is water that condenses on the cold surfaces of the AOS walls. No problem, they just have to empty it occasionally.
