Official: What are your real world MPG Numbers

Well, nothing from the dealer - also forgot to mention I'm running 45 psi in the tires.

With a firm tailwind coming home on the highway yesterday, 32mpg. Sigh.

It sounds like you're doing everything right to beat the EPA est and yet coming up very short of it. Mitdr's been getting mid 40s mpg hypermiling in his 1.8 manual. I think there's something off on your sonic, whether it's something the dealer can fix or find I don't know; occasionally it's a bunch of little things being just barely off that can cause uncommon problems.

At this point I'm holding out hope that at 7,000 miles it still just not broken in.

Depending on where Midtr is living, one thing I did notice about the Sonic is its sensitivity to both wind and temperature. Living in Canuckleland, and after having the coldest April on record, maybe things will come around. I mean, we still haven't had a day in the 80s since last August!

I stopped working on it since it doesn't get hardly any use. There has only been one tank entry this month so far and I have the only dragstrip postings. There are some minor bugs that I'll eventually fix but they're cosmetic. If it actually gets some useful testing I'll finish it.

I've been planning to take a look at it, but I haven't actually filled up yet this month. I just tried with my last fillup from the end of May and looked around a bit. couldn't wait for legs 5,6,7,8 284.5 miles 5.469 gals ...just missed 6.1 oh well 52.02 mpg:banana:...found 3.979...had to fill. tank was looking good for 550 plus. have to get oil change soon...29 % on gauge.


i live in michigan and the highway is I 94. lots of small hills and some flats. the city driving is wayne county with lights on the half mile and a Boulevard turn with 3 stops (Light,stp sign, and light again) be happy to post fuel reciepts if wanted. 45,834 at fill

52.02 is great! How fast do you drive on 94? If I drive 70, I get 40 MPG.

I have 46,740 now at my oil change this weekend.

I drive 60. used to be 63 but found a difference of only minutes between destinations....so I slowed down. just can't do 55 on the expressway. I am told I would see at 3 to 4 mpg difference...I just can't.:blankface:

lol I drive 50 in a 65, but that is late at night in the suburbs, and traffic is sparse. I can attest to the increase in mpg. If I fill up my tank and then go to work, I am sitting at 50-55 mpg when I arrive, driving 50 with some hills so steep I have to put it in 5th gear.

I don't think I've seen anywhere near those numbers for MPG... I've tracked with Fuelly since I bought the thing brand new... Maybe 33 mpg peak? And I don't drive like an ahole... (see signature...)

Filled up today. 10.101 gallons got me 475.xx miles.

47.xx was the hand calc (49.9 DIC). Pretty happy because i even had a drive to chicago that I thought would tank my mpg.

I recently bought an automatic 2013 LS hatchback and I have been getting terrible mileage. I spend most of my time in city traffic, but I try to drive as smart as I can. I have had the car about a month and my average MPG has been just under 20 MPG with my last tank being around 16 MPG. I am incredibly disappointed with the performance and wonder if there might be something wrong with my car. My girlfriend drives a 2008 Hyundai Elantra and she gets much better mileage than I do in similar conditions.

Looking through this post I see many people boasting much higher numbers than me. Could I be doing something wrong, or should I go and talk to my dealer about the poor performance?

If you spend most your time sitting in traffic, which drops MPG, then drive off for a few miles then sit for a while the trip computer just keeps lowering the MPG and you will not see an increase in MPG due to the heavy log of sitting running that it is up against.

Try this, reset your trip computer as you approach an overpass on the highway that way it starts reading with a low MPG as you go up and finish the calcs as it gaining on the down run and see what MPG you get. I'm betting that you have so many miles of idling in traffic on the log that it will never really go up unless reset.

Hope that makes some sense, I'm kind of out of it from packing all weekend.

Sorry about that, to clarify roll back your dial on the left hand stalk till it shows your MPG and hold in the button on the end till it shows no numbers and just --- which means your MPG is reset.

My car was getting horrible MPG when I bought it according to the MPG readout I assume due to the fact it was test drove a few times short trips and lots of idling. Its like if you never reset your MPG readout and you run 3 tanks of gas through the car at 33 MPG average the 33 MPG average is so high that even sitting in traffic for two hours wont decrease it and vice versa for low mileage.

I know I can explain this better in person just not coming over as clear via text as I thought it would.:blankface:
