This thread makes me really think I want to keep my Sonic beyond the payoff and beyond the warranty. I LOVE the passion behind making this tiny thing into a real contender.
There are lots of people on another forum I frequent that doubt and put down the little 1.4. I can't wait to see where this goes.
Also, what an incredible learning experience this is. Some of these posts (especially SX's) I feel like I need a translator for, but I get a lot out of googling what terms mean and what things do. LOVE IT!

Yup. And it is surprisingly sharp. Just in case someone thought that would be a great place to turn the crank by hand...... Wear gloves.
No wonder I see blood all over the place in one of your pics with the girdle off. Lol

Modifications and negligence pretty much voids your warranty with the dealership. I can not say for certain how your warranty stands, until you have a diagnosis from a GM dealership.

Negligence! If that car spends one night alone in a week it's lucky. What next, voiding warranty for alienation of affection, if he happens to look under the bonnet of a Camero? Hey, a guy's gonna look, it's just our genes talking, he only loves the Sonic, trust him.
Now my F150 might very well claim negligence, I only bought the Sonic to serve as a daily driver to take the load off my magnificent beast, figured I'd be lucky to use it half the time, and the poor truck sits gathering cobwebs now, I'm in the Sonic 98% of the time and when I -do- fire up the F150 it's as likely because the Sonic is in the shop as it is me actually needing to drive pickup instead of hatchback. Poor truck is lonesome but what can I say, this Sonic is the love of my life!

I was just teasing. I'm well aware of my blatant disregard for warranty eligibility.
This is actually the first car I've owned with a warranty, oddly enough it was the warranty that was holding me back in the beginning from enjoying this car the way that pleases me most. But at this point I believe I've liberated myself.

Haha, in another thread I noticed just how many of us bought this as their first car with a warranty/first new car. Likewise, I put off the tune for a year because of the warranty. Sadly, its 366 days I could of been happier that I'll never get back T_T

That was an entertaining read.
I lol'd when the conversation bypassed 300 and went directly to 400hp. Clearly I've set my sights too low.
And if the CT guys happen to see this...... I as most power modding Sonic owner here am dedicated to the M32 manual transmission. It's been proven to stand up to 400hp+ 2.0T Vaux engines.
And I'd like to add that the 1.4 is a GREAT platform for building up. Obviously the displacement crushes some dreams, but 300-400hp should be attainable while still retaining 35-40mpg in the low revs. Try that with a 2.0.......

That was my thread on ct, i have been watching your crowd for a while now, and i learned way more from yall then the ct guys they are scared to dig in over there i come from the nissan crowd and purchased the cruze because i needed two more doors and about 20 more mpgs. Plus i was sick of having 20yr old cars. The cruze appealed to me way more than the sonic and I'm sorry just not a 4 door hatch kind of guy

But all joking aside i too found a motor and trans and i have mine sourced for a bit cheaper than yours actually i got lucky, i am going to pick it up very soon and without reading your post i had the exact same ideas they call me crazy for saying 300 hp out of the 1.4 could be streetable, but i say its very possible. And i do believe that 400hp is well within the realm of possiblity with sacrifice. I have my cruze eco well below 2800lbs now and I'm ready to go crazy, i volunteer to see what the 1.4 will take i was planning on upgrading the turbo and running around 25lbs and seeing what happens with my motor on standby, actually the plan was to have the new "built" motor on standby and if the factory motor pops then pull it and start tracking down stronger forged parts no interest in stroking for me i actually planned on going to 8000ish rpm with the modded head and i have been considering going up on the cr and running as much boost as i can s
