Rs vs newer ralliart lancer

Was driving through the local closed course and came up on a newer ralliart Lancer, 09 or newer. It appeared stock other than some underglows. The light turns red and I hear the thing downshift to go to the stoplight. Dude is staring at me hard as I glance over to see if he's interested (which he was since I purged boost next to his open window) he brake stands and the light turns green. I rolled off the line, short shifted first, then nls'd 2nd to 3rd at about 5500. By the end of third I had probably close to two cars on it, and resumed cruising speed of 50, he turned right at the next road and flew off like Jessie when he lost to that s2k.

Pretty proud of the little fella. I didn't think I'd pull it off the line like that, I guess I can't complain about how low 1st is anymore.

On a side note, I test drove a 500 abarth and kinda thought it sucked, although it sounded sweet

Kinda wanted a ralliart before I chose the sonic. But I think I made the right decision

I personally find 1st gear very useful in my RS. Especially after the tune.

I agree, I was questionable about it at first, but the gearing is so low that the car really doesn't like to spin, which is a good thing. unless I straight drop the clutch it typically comes off the line pretty smoothly

I think you made a good decision with the sonic, I really couldn't be much happier with my rs. It feels exclusive to me too, ive saw WAY more fiat abarths (the local dealer has 6) and minis (we don't even have a mini dealer but theyre everywhere) and other small cars, ive only saw one other rs ever and it was in Indianapolis. and not my color.

I even see more r32s, and they only make 5k of those a year

With a basemap tune and exhaust etc, Sonics are barely even meeting the ralliart's stock 1/4 mile times. You sure it just wasn't one of the older NA models?

Purges boost....lol. A quarter mile at a time.

The awd turbo ralliart posts an obese curb weight of 3540 lb. 1/4 mile should be owned by the tuned sonic. 0-60 should be nose to nose.... going by the ralliarts out the door stats I'm thinking.

I disagree. Mags tested the car at 0-60 of 5.5-8 depending on review and 1/4 of 14.0- .4. (The best times I have seen were MotorWeek's tests). On the obesity factor, it also has more power to handle that extra weight and the awd advantage out of the hole. Taking a look at the 1/4 times from the sticky....the average tuned Sonic is not "owning" the ralliart.

Using these stats, I chalk this up to the Lancer having a poor driver, especially since the OP stated he was 2 car lengths ahead before 50mph. It should have been more of a drivers race.

As I've said in another thread:

80% of a race comes down to the driver.

The guy could have been driving against a fully blown Supra Mk4 and you could have had the same results if the guy couldn't drive the thing.

On a similar note: I "raced" (unintentionally, sort of) a 2008 Taurus and was beat to 40mph because I had a bad launch. By that point he was pulling ahead so I let him go. I say I "raced" him because I was just having fun. I had no idea he wanted to pull in front of me, so it turned into an impromptu drag race. Had I made a proper, hard launch, the results may have been different.

I cant see it being any older than a ten or 11, ive got friends with both generations of them, its the one that thinks its a baby evo ten.

id say driver was a little, but he had an auto and I was kinda short shifting, so take it as youd like. he probably could have brake boosted off the line a little harder. if it was me Id give it as much throttle as possible without rolling out. I come from the world of turbo buicks though...
