Gas mileage?

My car came out the gate with MPG it says it gets. It has increased a few MPG during break in but not a 20 MPG swing they say you're going to get.

I call BS on Chevy for this one saying it needs 2,000 miles on it to go from 19 to 40 MPG.

On Tuesday ill be taking car back up there after my trip and we'll see what happens. This is the very first car I've ever bought but it seems like it's one thing after another I bought this car on the 8th of June I've only had it in my possession for a total of 6 days the rest of time it's been in shop getting painted or worked on i still have not received any paperwork whatsoever I've had to get another 30 day tag and my first payment is due on 23rd but I have no idea who to pay where to pay it etc.... My very first car should not be this much of a problem :-( it's supposed to be exciting and memorable yet this makes me never wanna come here again but I absolutely love my little car I hope it's fixable

Cody89 that is definitely a bummer, so sad you're first new car has been anything less than stellar.\. Atleast the dealer sounds more than willing to look at it after your trip if the MPG is still in the tank.

Cody89 did you ever have your check engine light come on and then go off after a short time? I wonder if maybe you have a bad o2 sensor or something making the car run extremely rich. Though codes are usually thrown if it has to add more than 20% fuel.

No I never had check engine light come on but I've only had a handful of days to myself

I'm having the same problem as Cody89 with mpg, and have had no other problems at all. The car feels and sounds great. The tach stays low the vast majority of the time, but the mileage is horrendous. I'm afraid to take it in as I don't like mechanics nosing around when they have no idea what is wrong.

This has gone from a mystery where we wonder what it is you are doing wrong, to one where we wonder what is wrong with your cars. If I were Chevy, I'd trade you a nice new car and take that one to my Skunkworks and tear it down and nail down this problem fast. I guess that's why I'm a small sword manufacturer and not a major car company, though.

I spoke with the dealer today and told him after 700 miles into trip I'm still suffering & he needed to have one waiting for me when I returned or have a spark waiting for me but my budget is 20k & I need a car with great gas mileage as I make this trip to Iowa every month

If he seriously left you that message then a complaint should be filed with GM about the dealership. especially if you have it on voicemail.

Hi Jackie I did not know I could send messages until a few days ago & I've been speaking with a customer care rep & they are helping I just got back from Iowa today and after 1500 miles I'm only averaging 27 on highway with an average speed of 60-65 :-(

I average 70-80mph at 41-44 mpg in ma that is all hills

So little update for y'all I've put 2100 miles on car and after 7 tanks (Oklahoma to Iowa and back) my overall average is 27.2 mpg highway :-( no nearly the 35-40mpg I was told and the service dept is saying that's the best ill get going up and down all those hills and the car won't truly be broken in until at least 10,000 miles..... Love how that number keeps going up lol
