Buying Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ this week

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've been around. Just been working a lot and working on my buddy's S2000, but I'm going through all the paperwork to trade in my Sonic and getting a BRZ or FRS this week. Pretty excited, the cars drives like a dream and I just need something that I'm actually passionate about. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on the forums!

200hp? My Sonic has that at the wheels. 151ft/lbs torq? lol . 34 hwy MPG? RWD is a plus but other than that it's not very impressive IMO. And for a 2.0, it is behind the curve.

Nice pickup OP. I've read a lot of the debate about this car, and it seems to be car that's really not about numbers, but about that (affordable) well-balanced RWD experience. Takes well to mods, too. Edmunds has an FR-S they have modded pretty heavily, you should check it out :thumbup:

OP hope you enjoy the new car. I was looking at them before purchasing the Sonic but the fairly anemic engine, lower MPG, and much higher price tag killed it for me.


If chevy made that car with the 1.4t I'd be driving it right meow

Yep,

RWD is great for a weekend or nice weather sports car or toy but when it comes to a daily driver forget it. Drove nothing but RWD for years and years and then got my first FWD car and I'll never go back.

If I were you (which im not) I would wait another year or two before buying a FRS or BRZ. If you believe the rumors on the internet (which could be 100% false) Subaru may release a BRZ STI in a year or two which would be cool to see how it is. But you can't believe everything on the internet...lol

Nice! Have fun with it, good choice! Ive read quite a bit on the car and the reviews are all really positive. Nope this car is not about high hp numbers, it's all about the delivery of the power, handling and the connected feel. Everything isn't always about horsepower but if you do want more....that's what modding is about right?

My opinion of the FR-S, nice car, but the interior really kinda sucks. It feels very cheap sitting inside the cabin. Everything else about the car was pretty good.

Thanks for all the input guys, well I just need something for me that is fun to drive and that I enjoy everyday. I only drive 5.7 miles to work everyday so most if my driving is for pleasure not because I'm forced to commute. A guy in my area has one as a daily for the past year or so and he says he wouldn't trade it for anything fwd. yeah it's going to be a pain in the snow but I won't really need to drive all that much. Maybe I'll just move south
The interior yes feels cheesy but look at my sonic LT, it feels just as bad if not worse. I'm getting the BRZ Wednesday, and it has the nab system and all the bells and whistles, and the seats are much more friendly on my lower back.

OP- congrats and don't worry about what others think. It is your money.

I will say that I stop to look at the BRZ every time I see one, which isn't often. I absolutely love the looks of them.

I looked at the FRS before the sonic. Wanted one badly but I would wreck the first day of snow The sonic is fwd and I have a hard time driving it in the winter Good luck with your new ride!

Any RWD vehicle will be awful. My first car was 86 tbird, second car was an 87 GP which is the same as a same year monte carlo or cutlass and then I had a few others including a RWD pickup. They all sucked equally.

However, if you're prepared to deal with that any time there is a little snow on the road, or even in rain then its all good. By rain I mean when your at a stop sign on a hill, or even worse turning on a hill when stopped. You can have all the power in the world but when your next to a FWD 60HP car they will get ahead of you.

Really, stopped on hills and rain and RWD an issue? I live in Seattle, drive a rwd (lightweight mind you) car in the rain quite often. No issues with what you described here. Below is a picture of the road I worked on down town for over 9yrs. So Seattle, stoplights and rain hills rain....no issues! We are used to it As far as snow....doesn't matter if you have 4x4, AWD, FWD or RWD here in the city....have fun crashing! We donkt have a ton of gear and the city doesnt use salt...only sand. This is why the city shuts down from only a few inches of snow because of all the hills, take a look at the pic. Its because the city itself is built on a giant hill that leads to the sound. Even on the flat freeway, most folks dont do well in the snow because we dont get a ton of it in the Puget Sound lowlands. I guess its all relative to the conditions we are used to.

We get 2-4ft of snow from time to time where I live and where my parents live they get snow from October until May. Guess its all what you're used to.
