Plasti Dipped Interior

Hey, I just got my RS in July and have been thinking about some modifications I'd like to make. The first one, getting rid of the grey/silver trim on the dash and steering wheel.


So, this is, obviously, the before pic:

I just didn't like how the whole theme was black and red, but there was this random grey/silver thrown into the mix. So I ended up taking it all apart...

In this next two pics, I forgot that I left the speedometer in the back seat of the car, haha.

Now, some base coats of white to really make the red look nice and bright!

Time for the red... and what you don't get to see is that after the coats of red, I did one top coat of gloss.

Tada!!!!

Overall, it was worth it, I think it looks great. Took a long time, considering each coat of plasti dip needs 20 minutes to dry and it was my first time taking the dash apart. Overall, it was about 6 hours of work.

No, I think I'll be leaving all the chrome as is. It looks pretty good like this.

Oh, jeez... I don't know, I didn't really take notice, except for that one was a mini USB plug. Mini, not micro. I think it stood out to me because I haven't seen mini USB in a long while, haha.

Now that I've done this, I've been looking around for other things to plasti dip. I'm doing the whole car in about a month, but until then, I'm going to have this plasti dip itch, haha. Maybe I'll do my rims ahead of time.

It's good that you are taking the time to do a quality job, looks good.

I lean towards the 'less is more' with this kind of stuff, it's easy to overdo it and turn some nice accenting into something overpowering.

So I decided to just tackle it. Did everything except for the v and the bezel around the speedometer. Thanks alot for sparking my interest on the interior mods =)

WhiteOut, got any more pics? I'm not going to dive in and say it looks cheap, but I will say it's hard to get a good look at your work in that pic. Sorry I didn't get back on here sooner, by the way. I would have gave you some tips.

PS - as a little update, the plasti dip has really cured well now and has taken on an even nicer look, now that it's tightened up a tad. Very nice to have the whole interior be RS friendly red & black, haha.

I keep staring at the bow tie on my steering wheel and thinking about what to do with it. lol

I despise the "dip" and I expected it to look horrible, but it doesn't. I would've used regular paint, but I think it looks decent.

hey, on the interior parts.... like the grey plastic on the dash & doors, is that plastic melted to the other part of the dash/door panel? Or can it be removed? I keep thinking of some mod to that...covering in a cloth, or leather'ish ..... something...

Just don't know if it's a separate piece...
