We were stationed there for 3 years at Kirtland AFB! Wife is Active Duty, I'm a Federal Civilian slave
OTHER THAN.... the high altitude that will suck all the power out of your car (turbo doesn't take as hard as a hit as a Non-turbo car), the horrible 91 octane the gas stations carry, no tuner shops, windy/dusty as hell, no place to go (unless you are an outdoors type), no grass on-base housing, the smallest BX in the entire AF......WE LOVED IT!!!
But seriously though...It's what you make of it man. We loved the gym, and there are things to do (we got kids). The only thing that made it bad for us were the evil neighbors that lived on base that were exempt from the base cops cause they were retired and/or civilians.
It's pretty there, esp in the winter with the Air Balloon festival is in town. If you plan on living on base, make sure u get a house that actually has an A/C and not a swamp cooler, makes a huge difference. I also loved the food, yum! Stay away from Central Ave...cause there are crazy people there, and watch out for the all the homeless hanging out down town.
Overall, we really like it (not being sarcastic either); it wasn't perfect, but you got to go where they send u. It's only 6 hours from Vegas and 3 to Denver. Anyways, holla at me if u need more info. We are at Lackland now. Good luck to you and ur fam.
