DDMWorks Intake 1.8 Installed!

Finally after 2 and a half hours of messing with this damn thing i FINALLY have my DDMworks intake system installed!!! Yes, i said 2 and a Half hours to install it. I told you guys i wasnt the best at this stuff. If it wasnt one thing it was another. Nothing EVER is easy for me. Where does one jack up the car from the front of it? I need to get the Belly pan off so i can retrieve a couple screwdrivers from my engine bay! yeah, butterfingers here lol.

So, after a couple hours of cussing and swearing i have the intake installed! :banana: looks great. Of all the install the thing that gave me the most grief was the damn UniFoam Filter! Damn thing kept slithering off the pipe as if on ice. Even after cleaning it thoroughly with countless cleaners to remove all oil residue from both the fitler rubber and tube. So, I did some rigging and Took the tube off and drilled a few holes and screwed the MoFo onto the pipe! Aint coming off now little bastard! Sorry, Im just frustrated that I get all that way then have a damn filter give me the most hell. opcorn:

was the clamp bad for the filter? Or the filter too large for the intake. It's a straight forward process of sliding on the filter and tightening the clamp. If anythings wrong the cause should be apparent.

The Filter was a snug fit on the pipe. The Clamp worked as it should have. The dang thing just kept popping off like it was on ice upon tightening of the clamp. Cleaned both pipe and filter thoroughly to ensure no grease was on either and still did it. So, I rigged it onto the pipe. I drilled a few holes and screwed it to the pipe!! Yes, im sure i will get flack from people for doing that but oh well. its on now! and if i have any further troubles when upgrading the filter i already have the holes to screw it on too! and yes i cleaned the pipe of any shavings before installing it. Runs great. no check engine light yet. love it!

why is your engine bay so different from mine? is it because i have a California car? my 1.8 looks different, has way more hoses and pumps than i see in your bay.

There is a California specific version for the 2013 model year. Do not know what makes it different.

California Intake different?

Here are 3 photos of my air intake. One has the connector and hose that goes to a pump or valve then that has a hose that connects to a second pump on the other end of the motor.

could of used a 8mm? stubby socket on the clamp instead of trying to put a flat head on it... Nice write up, sorry to see you had such a hard time installing a filter. Where you maybe trying to put the clamp on too tight?

yeah after i had dropped the third screwdriver down the engine bay i said enough of this and grabbed a socket and torqued it on and off for each. I did get them out tho. so there not in there anymore. Lessons learned. and as for the Filter, I was trying to tighten the clamp too much. i guess with this one you dont need to go as tight as most things.

I eventually got it on right and staying. I personally think it would have been nicer if the end of that tube had been grooved a little to give a better bonding to the rubber mount of the filter instead of a smooth finish where it was to sit at.

But, overall its done, installed and i absolutely love this system! The car runs great and sounds great. Very happy with this Intake from DDMworks. It was really an easy intake to install. very straight forward. I just tend to take the easiest of jobs and make them harder than need be lol. oh well opcorn:

i would have to say because it is a california car and from what i know california has some very strict rules and laws in that state thus why alot of things are not legal in california aftermarket wise. Smog and such control is high in that state. so they probably had some extra equipment installed to make that thing run as clean as possible and the intake extras probably id say are there to help regulate and clean the dirty air that may come from areas of california to help the car breathe better.

Just my thoughts on the issue. I just know california is very strict when it comes to cars and trucks. My previous car i owned, everything i had on that car was illegal in california, Legal everywhere else.

Probably a secondary air system. It's the only thing I can think of.

They pump air into the catalytic converter to get the catalyst up to temp faster during startup and shortly after starting. Works on a similar principle as stoking a fire. It Lowers intial exhaust emissions since a cold cat doesn't work very effeciently.

BMW was pretty big into them but as far as most other cars I've rarely seen them.

Also, if anyone gives you flack for screwing the filter on, they are a moron. I want to give you an at-a-boy, because that is a very creative solution to the problem you faced. And it won't impact performance in any way.

The ddm intake is a work of are, with the k&n it actually requires a maf re calibration because it moves so much air

Thanks! and yeah i was getting very frustrated over the fact that thing would not stay on lol. So, i sat the filter down, walked into the garage, opened the tool box, grabbed a drill bit, made a few starter holes, grabbed some screws and screwed it onto the pipe. then took the clamp and put it over the screws so it looks as if its clamped on opcorn:

And $ub$onic, thats why i got the Foam filter for now. once i get around to getting tuned im definetly upgrading to a K&N Filter and really opening up that car! It is so much fun. The tone of the exhaust changed with this on thier. I know when it means business now with a destinctive sound it makes when it reaches down and pulls. Love it! Makes the car very enjoyable. and, i just took a trip to the city over yonder that i go to here and there...

I barely used any gas like 1 bar maybe vs before i would drop 2-3bars at least doing the same trip. Takes off smoother. dont take as much to get it up to speed and rpms stay around 2k-2300rpms now. before it would constantly do at least 2500-3000rpms before it would shift. not now. love it!

Unfortunately those gains may not last once the ECU figures out what you did when it wasnt looking.

That's what makes the tune inevitable for anyone hoping to add sizable power.

Quick, easy and very good quality products. Love this intake! Makes my car so much fun to drive. really takes off and goes now. Ive had to catch myself several times taking off so not to ram into someones rear end lol. For not being tuned yet this thing really performs. Worth buying. and if you get the setup i got, with a tune you can upgrade it with a K&N Filter and Really open that car up. Well worth it in my opinion. My next goal is indeed the Tune!
