ZZP Rear disk conversion!?

It happened fairly recently. $ub$onic is the only one that has installed them thus far (at least so far as I know) and it is his review that you see on ZZP's website.

Aside from the obvious benefits, I still don't understand how swapping from drums to discs is easier than simply replacing worn shoes.

to someone not mechanically inclined. pulling 2 bolts and replacing pads is much easier then shoes,,

put the shoe on the wrong side put the spring in wrong.. not adjusting the screw adjuster properly many many things

I get that. Pads are easier than shoes. But is it really easier to do a rear disc conversion than simply change the shoes? Perhaps, but I am not convinced. It's not exactly rocket surgery.

I wish there was an option for non-drilled and slotted rotters and maybe a little less grippy pad.
I just want discs in the back and seeing how they barely do any stopping unless you're pullin' the ebrake around corners, you don't need all that.

You know..that is a pretty damn good quote. Im broke...But i can build all kinds of things man. too bad building sick cars requires money. :sadbanana:

anyways. my 2 cents is that drums are ugly and a sign of cheap car not sports car. as a matter of fact thats one of the things that bugs the hell out of me about my car is the drums. They work fine, drum brakes are obviously the pioneers and have been stopping cars forever.

discs are sexy looking... and it just looks more appealing as a sportier vehicle if its wearing discs.

I've done a disk conversion before, I find doing that easier then changing shoes.

I'm with sub. I know drums are good enough for the rears since the front do all the talking on a DD....but if you're going to mod...then mod dam it!! ;)

I'm very tempted to convert also not just for looks but I really really hate drums. I remember days as a kid helping my dad change out all 4 drums on his suburban. Took us all day it seemed like. Disk however. 1 to 1.5 hrs tops and that was playing around.

I will eventually switch to rear disk brakes, but only when I upgrade the fronts. Next year I will be running a much stickier tire when I autocross and I feel the stock brakes will not be up to the ability as the tires.

Drums are awesome on the rear of a FWD DD car. They do exactly what they are supposed to, require very little upkeep, and last a long time. Overall weight is probably close unless an aluminum caliper is used. It is also possible that the disk conversion actually weighs more.
