stability control light

first please excuse my punctuation not a strong point of mine, I purchased my 2012 Sonic 1.8l LT HB just over a week ago, and noticed when I'm driving mostly around town the stability control light comes on and stays on until I shut the car off and turn it back on. I checked the manual on it and it says that if it stays on that the stability control is then disabled and that something could be wrong and to have it checked out asap, I am going to the dealer on Tuesday to have it looked at but I figured I would make a post before I go in to see if anyone else has had this issue or knows what might be the problem. the weird thing about it is I bought the car and the next day noticed the light coming on then 3 days later went on vacation to San Diego there and back about 200 miles and the light never once came on threw the whole trip but the second I got back home and stared driving around town the light came right back on.

any thoughts/insight would be much appreciated.

Bummer. A faulty wheel speed sensor is a likely culprit.

Mine is on too, just came on the other day. The t/c still works but the s/t does not. Since I no longer have a warranty I am not worried about it.

Please tell me what you find.

$ub you said yours came on in relation to your steering wheel install? After my experience Friday I'm half tempted to say that the st light coming on also is a warning of some sort of electrical or computer issue.

First time it came on was when my laptop died while trying to re-flash my tune. That was in relation to the PCM not having anything on it.

Second when I went to hit the road, I plugged up my UG and it must have. It been in all the way or something, my lights were dimming and the idle was wonky and the ST light was coming on and off in rhythm with the dimming and idle. I fixed it by shutting off the car and unplugging the UG. I've since plugged back in and all is fine.

I'm interested to hear about this issue as well.

Usually if the stability light is on, but not the abs light, it's not a wheel speed sensor. The last few GMs (various models) we've seen with this have been a steering wheel position sensor. If you have access to a scan tool, they're very easy to diagnose. Typically if you look at the value in degrees, it will be waaaaaaay off the charts, like 45000 degrees.

With the steering wheel degrees messed up that would explains why s/t would not work.
