Looking over at gm parts direct, it seems doing this job your way is about $377.89 more than free.

I'm reluctant to screw up my actual OEM parts, I too prefer to buy a replacement and do the work on that. But wow, almost four hundred bucks for a little piece of plastic? Is there a sub-part that I can get cheaper?

Swordsmith, you seem to have more than enough skill to do this. It is so easy, if you can craft swords this will be a walk in the park!

When we bought ours it came with injectors, map sensor, throttle body and bypass solenoid. I am guessing that is why they are that much.

Not sure, we always like to have extra's floating around for different testing though. What are your stock ones doing?

As a novice, I'm not sure how to remove the air dams in the intake manifold. A picture would be great! Please don't laugh too much. I currently only have a full tune from BNR, no other mods.

x2 - I am interested as well and would like couple of photos to see what exactly is involved

The little walls in the ports are for more tumble and better fuel atomization for cold start emissions - it should not affect mpg. B-)

Go with the giants - they're expensive, but maybe yours are so noisy since you're running them at a higher duty cycle that they're designed for. (?)

Speaking of larger injectors. Dave are you running 42lb injectors in this test?

I can't imagine the stock injectors can support that much power, Mine are going static at 175hp/215tq

This is promising, My only worry is that the stock injectors on the 1.8 wouldn't be able to handle headers, CAI, removal of the air dams, and a tune. I'm afraid you'd be pushing them a little hard to compensate for the fuel flow the engine would demand at higher RPM's.

Are there bigger injectors for the 1.8 anywhere? I know there are 42lb ones for the 1.4, but that doesn't help us 1.8 plebeians.

You should be fine on stock injectors up until forced injection, or serious porting/cams are done.

Pretty sure the 1.8 uses the same injectors as the 1.4t which would be 28lbs injectors.On the 1.4t the stock injectors will start to go static at around 165-170hp (but have supported a max of 188hp from what I've seen, but they were static from 3,500 RPM to redline, not good).

I've not seen a 1.8 push those power levels just yet, even with a tune and full bolt-ons. Even so the injectors should support a little more power since the 1.8 does not run nearly as rich on the topend, reducing the fuel requirements.

Also the 1.8 has a different intake manifold, It's a variable intake. No ones looked at the runners to my knowledge but It's doubtful it has the same tumblers.

I do believe the 1.8 uses the same injectors. You will need a tune update though.
