My wife has a backup camera on her Honda and yes it gets dirty. We developed the habit of wiping the lense off with a finger when we get in.

Don't you live in Texas? Do you really think you need a heated steering wheel? I drove off today @ -1.5F and didn't see a need for one.

Do I NEED it? No. I'm also originally from Chicago and while Texas doesn't compare with the weather patterns, it gets chilly here.
The other week I had a Traverse loaner with a heater steering wheel and seats. On 30* mornings and some mid-30's days, I'd drive around with heated wheel on and seat warmers on. No heat.
I much prefer driving with heated seats and steering wheel on and not use the heater in the car. The heated air dries out my eyes and sinuses.

I usually leave the heat off until my windshield and windows start fogging up for that exact reason. Problem is with 10-20F temps you need heat to stop the glass from fogging / icing.
Good point I suppose though, on those warmer days you can stay comfortable without the heat.

I think the camera could come in handy if there is a little kid directly behind the car.

I agree there. Can be argued that kids should be educated by parents not to be close to any and all cars, but kids are kids.
There are kids that like to run around the apartment complex where I live. There's one really stupid one that's aiming for a Darwin award. He blasts accross the drive regularly w/o looking for cars at all.
I always reverse into my parking spot at the apartment complex. Not only does it provide me with far greater visibility of my surroundings, I am also a superior driver and a human being for backing into parking spots. :banana:

Could be why the feds decided to delay the requirement last year. Of course the lead time to design and engineer probably takes at least a year so the safety requirement is met though not currently required.

I work for the federal government, and the last thing they need to be mandating is more requirements. For anything.

I'm tall and still I have a problem seeing everything around me. I work in a boat yard and there are thing like hitches and anchors sticking out every place. The lens does get dirty but it's glass and it's easy to clean with a wet finger. So... I've been driving the car for a couple months now and have grown to like this camera a lot. It helps a bunch more then I originally thought it would.

I'll never agree with anyone that makes a statement like "people have done for years".
Marie Curie handled uranium,radium etc with her bare hands for years. Do you want to?
This statement is not meant to show any disrespect to Marie Curie. She was an amazing person. However when we learn to do something beneficial we should do it, not say "people didn't need it for years".
People make mistakes and if a cheap camera can save some lives then so be it.

Well last year I backed into a small 2 foot pole that I didint see and glad it didint make any damage and then around 3 months ago I almost backed into a 3 food cement pole that use to be a light pole I guess and to me I think I need it. It would give me a 3rd eye just to be sure nothing is behind me as I backup. I have one to install to my app radio just haven't yet

I used to have the same mindset as you, I absolutely hated back up cameras and I thought it was just people being lazy and being unable to drive.
However, at my new job I drive cars all day, brand new cars as well as customer cars, and we have to back them all up bumper to bumper "so it looks better and the customers have an easier time leaving"
I now love getting into a car with a backup camera because it makes backup up so much easier and eliminates the need for someone to guide to back as you reverse.
On my personal cars, I don't need a backup camera, at work, I absolutely love them.
I just purchased a 2014 LTZ sedan and it has a rear view camera. While it's a great feature, I wish it also had the proximity sensors on the rear bumper as well. Nice to get that audible warning and I've had that feature on a few cars as well. Anyone know if there's a retro-fit kit for the proximity sensors?
Hey, if you get a chance (and no rush on this), could you post a pic of where the rearview camera is located on the trunk lid/back of the car? I'm nowhere near a dealer but I'd like to see where GM mounted it (more interested in the hatchback location, but this would be a start).
