Hey Pre I found a tranny even you can't blow in the sonic. It meets your hardly functional build. Its a 6 speed auto with 2 speed reverse. You need to beef the front suspension up to handle an extra 2.25 tonns.

Nothing new. I think Dave is working out the optimal intercooler on the dyno.
Got me another MZ0, sitting in the garage. My third and fifth crunch going in, EVERY time.
So when it finally starts popping out of gear, I'll be ready.
I haven't had time to start building Project Indestructible M32. Work has been going great. But it's stressful being bauss, and the commute sucks. So by the time I get off, I spend what little time I have left keeping the house maintained.
I'm making a butt-ton of money, but I'm focusing on paying off my loan on the Sonic. Should be paid in full by the year's end.

Swapping in the newer MZ0 tomorrow. My stock MZ4 seems to have developed a shift selector shaft issue. It started with a crunch, every time I shift into 5th. Then 3rd started doing it as well.
Now it won't go into 2nd from 3rd when I'm decellerating. I could've lived with the 3rd and 5th crunch for months, but not being able to go back down into 2nd has become a major pain on my traffic packed commute.
Also, at slower speeds, sometimes it won't let me out of 3rd. wtf?
I'm excited to finally be back to an MZ0, but the clock only resets and it will just be a matter of time......:blankface:

Pre your Really living up to your nickname, the "M32 martyr"! What is this trans number two killed in action .
I'm curious, do you down shift thru all the gears whenever you slow down? Might be able to milk some more mileage by only downshifting when neccesary to get into the powerband. It's a bit of a cop out but could by you some time before the next trans change until the beefed up trans is ready for install.

I don't downshift excessively. When I need to really pick up the pace to abort traffic and hit the fast lane, I'll drop her down and rip it hard. But I don't make a general practice of using any gears when slowing or coasting to a stop.
This failure is an odd one. It seems to be in the selector shaft, and is slowly beginning to affect all gears. Part of me wonders if it's clutch related, like the clutch is dragging and not letting the input shaft speed synch. But it still crunches going into 3rd even without using the clutch......
I do, as a contingency, have an extra Stage 4 disc, and 2 extra slave throwouts on hand. I just hope the trans I'm installing doesn't already have some issues. There isn't any really way to confirm problems until you drive with it. But I spoke to the seller, and warned him of the common problems, and he promised me that he will honor his 6 month warranty.
Chances are it won't last 6 months, but as long as it isn't already damaged, I'm not gonna pursue him if I end up toasting it.

I got the MZ0 in this morning. Took 3.5hrs from on to off the lift, and included swapping the LSD over. The MZ4 was toast.
I knew it was bad when the oil drained looked like silver nail polish.
Upon further inspection, I find some teeth chunked up.
I'm reminded once again how awesome the MZ0 is!!! I am trying to decide if I should order the parts needed to rebuild my first MZ0, or just buy another one. At this point, I don't feel comfortable without having a spare ready to go.

Well that's no good. Did the gear damage look like something broke free and got wedged in the teetth, or the edges just broke loose? Kinda looks like the former from what I can see but you have a bit more technical knowledge on this trans and were the one inspecting it.

Sub, I got both plugs sitting hand tight in the busted MZ4, in the trunk of my car. I'll pull them out soon and compare. Interesting sidenote, this MZ0 is slightly different. It has a 3rd plug, on the case where my other two M32s don't. It's from a '11 Cruze. Weird.
Sx, I strongly suspect something broke free (like a bearing roller) and went through the chipper causing all the havoc. The chunk missing, in the pic suggests just that. If just the edges were damaged, I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a bad carrier bearing, that misaligned the crown wheel, but I can't see how that would take a chunk out right in the middle of the tooth.
