Hey ss2000slp, add this to the top post:
Cheverolet's multiple warranties and coverage periods.
I feel that enough people are unaware that different issues may be covered under different warranties (EG. "bumper to bumper" vs "powertrain" vs "sheet metal") and that the coverage time frame of certain warranties can be extremely different, that clarification needs to be added.
To give a simple breakdown
Powertrain warranty= 5yr/100k miles
This covers the majority of engine, trans, emission, and drivetrain components.
From the link, the following are excluded: "Exclusions: Excluded from the powertrain coverage are sensors, wiring, connectors, engine radiator, coolant hoses, coolant, and heater core. Coverage on the engine cooling system begins at the inlet to the water pump and ends with the thermostat housing and/or outlet that attaches to the return hose. Also excluded is the starter motor, entire pressurized fuel system (in-tank fuel pump, pressure lines, fuel rail(s), regulator, injectors, and return line), as well as the Engine/ Powertrain Control Module and/or module programming."
Note that some of those items "may" be covered in the normal powertrain warranty.
Bumper to Bumper warranty = 3yr/36k mi
This covers the vast majority of issues such as radio defects, weather striping causing wind noise, poor paint quality, broken seat, out of adjustment body panels. Pretty much any general issues.
Sheet Metal warranty = 3yr/36k mi or 6yr/100k mi depending on the issues
Taken from the link: "Corrosion coverage is for the first 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Rust-through coverage is for the first 6 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first."
Emission Warranty = 2yr/24k mi or 3yr/36k mi or 8yr/80k mi depending on the issue and affected component.
Basically almost every emission related component is covered for 3yr/36k mi under this or the bumper to bumper warranty.
Some select, major components are covered for 8yr/80k miles.
