Livin' Large with My Orange Turbo 6M LTZ Hatch Deep in NJ
I've been out of touch with the forum for a number of weeks, but I wanted to report that I finally got my orange hatch last week and it's been a blast. The huge majority of cars around here are rather drab colored, same-shaped sedans or suburban behemoths that this thing really sticks out. I want it to be seen because it's just a cool car and I also like that bit of extra visibility factor so that people see me coming and hopefully don't do anything stupid to get us all killed - after all, it's not a 3 ton SUV and I do live in NJ.
It took two months to the day to get the car: Feb 18 to April 18. The LTZ has all that I need and want (although a heated steering wheel would be really welcome in the winter - maybe next car). I did not get the sunroof - I just prefer to have the extra room and a homogenous surface above my head. I've got about 200 miles on it and still have a third of a tank. I seem to be getting about 33 MPG around town although if I really baby it, I can get it to go over 40 when on the backroads to work (no hiway). This is sooo much better than my Liberty.
I'm thinking hiway will yield over 40 no prob - probably be June before I do a long trip, tho.
I did try to get the black 17" rims GM has in their APO listing. The dealer added them to the car order. When the car came, they were on the invoice and the window sticker but not to be seen. They told me GM hires local companies now to whom GM ships the rims and then that company comes around to the dealers to swap them out for you. Seems that they had been shipping them with the cars but were getting too much damage by the carriers - why they don;t just UPS them to the dealer is a mystery - none of us could understand the logic of an independent company.
Anyway, the local dealer had not gone through this before (apparently this is relatively new), and so they needed to look into who the company was and when they would be doing the swap. It took them most of the past week to finally get hold of the company who had no idea about my rims. In the meantime, I had bought the car (with the rim cost added in) waiting for the call to get this done. The dealer then called the plant where they learned that GM had actually cancelled the rims due to them being on backorder and had not forwarded a new invoice to the dealer with the rims being deleted. The guys at the dealer were apologizing heavily and will be refunding me the money and told me that if I bought other rims, that they will be happy to swap them out for me at no charge. Although it was a little unnerving that the dealer was in the dark so much on this stuff, I do know what it's like to work for a very large company - stuff just doesn't go as smoothly as you would like to believe it should. Many thanks to the folks (Joe G. mainly) at the Freehold Pine Belt Chevy for getting me my car and sweating through the rim hiccup.
So, I am looking for rims, but the 5x105 bolt pattern is the thing in the way at the moment - why these websites can't let you search on that spec is beyond me. But at least now I can call myself an owner and not a wannabe.
Glad to finally be in the pool.
