Going back in the Dealer again....

Well after having the tranny changed in december I thought all would be well for at least a few months...well the pesky wiper squirter on the drivers side has gone again(on my 3rd now), and after I did an inspection while the car was on the lift getting the oil changed at my fav dealer since I hate doing it myself during winter(not to mention my bumper to bumper is almost up and it was a good time to check everything out wiht one of the mechanics) we came to find my inner boot on the CV is wide open and spitting grease everywhere. Ordered the new boot and I'm scheduled to go in Monday. They believe it was removed during the tranny repair and somehow got damaged.

My guess is that a pry bar was used to pop the axle out of the trans. Really easy to snag the boot if you are not careful.

Why not just replace the cv axle?

If it is warranty they have to replace just the failed part. If the boot is a service part that is available it is what will be replaced. If the joint ends up being bad it will be replaced. Very rare to replace the whole shaft as a warranty repair.

Oh they may have to replace the axle, this morning she was making some bad ass poping noises, there is grease everywhere on the lower end of the car, the grease even made its way up the firewall on the drivers side. Called the dealer and told them I am not driving the car since I believe the boot may almost be dry. Trying to fit me in today to see if the boot and new grease will do the trick or if I'm out of a car for a few days.

yeah, a popping is a classic sign of a bad CV joint.

But everyone else is right, they will replace ONLY what's broken...

I'm replacing the sway bar links this weekend, mine clunk like there totally worn out

I'm hoping like on my civics when this happened that its only a matter of cleaning it up, re-greasing and the new boot and problem solved, I went ahead and called the parts dept and asked how long for a new CV and it would be a few days so might be looking at a loner, we shall see.

Might I recommend you go with the cobalt metal ones VS our plasticrap. I'm very happy with those over the stockers.

I ebayed some Moog's... they're metal... going to put car on jack stands Saturday and knock it out...

Had to do it on my 95 Contour... made a world of difference.. BTW, that car had plenty of recalls & defects!

Just put those Moog's on Black Turbo LTZ...

THANKFULLY I'd bought a little socket set from Lowe's that has that torx bit which fit into the end links...

It NEVER hurts to buy tools.. even if you think you'll never use them...eventually you will!

Not sure if it's quieter, but I'm happier with the metal. Kept the old plastic ones just in case...they seem quite tight still...but that may be misleading..

Cars back on the road and better than ever, they cleaned and inspected the Cv and all is well, so just new grease and boot and that solved that...upon a road test mechanic could then hear a faint noise that was otherwise hidden by the clunking, turns out my Stab Link on the drivers side was loose and hitting the lower table. I decided to do the rounds myself while the car was up and to my surprise the passenger side where it attaches to the shock was leaking grease(not even one year old MOOG parts and they are leaking, thank god for the lifetime warranty, just means I have a project this week to change them)

I need to check the tightness of my stabilizer bar bushing bolts...I'm still getting a clunk on just the right type of surface.

Everytime I go in for an oil change I have them check the whole front suspension, ya I check it myself whenever I hear a noise but its way easier up on the lift.

I was getting a real good look the the rear suspension and pretty small number of things it could be...granted I to have a noise but its not enough to bother me at the moment.

shocks, springs with end caps, shock mount...and bushing...that's about it...

fuel filler tube and a rubber grommet on the passenger side...
