anyone else considering trading in for one of the Ford ST's ?

The 2 things that impressed me about the fiesta were the seats, omg they are amazing, the most comfortable seats I've sat in and I've sat in alot, including $200k supercars.

The 2nd is the trans is smooth and rows thru the gears like butter.

Other than that it has nothing I want over my Sonic, well decent tires. Power wise we're bout the same, even when Theyre tuned they don't have much more than the average modded sonic, same with handling.

How does the Fiesta ST 1.6 (197/202) compare to a Sonic 1.4 (138/148) with a gap of 59hp and 54trq?! Maybe a stock ST vs a tuned 1.4t might be close. Both tuned would only spread the power gap further.

Yup, it just doesn't compare. Add in the fact that the Fiesta is pretty well underrated. See the Edmunds link I posted above; it's making 184 at the wheels stock.

I think if a Sonic SS ever comes to light it will have the 1.6t and then it will be a good comparison to the ST and if they stuff a 2.0t in it there shouldn't be much in the segment that can keep up with it.

Agreed. I don't know why GM is reluctant to get in the hot small car segment again. Almost every other MFR has something compact or smaller with a high output motor. They already have a Cruze "SS" wearing a Buick suit, why not pit it against the Focus ST, Civic Si, GTI, WRX, etc?

I was comparing tuned sonic to stock ST, left out that bit, figured it would go without saying but apparently not.

Tuned the STs don't appear to have as large of gains as the Sonic from what I've seen on their forums (unsurprisingly given the STs higher state of tune from the factory and it's overboost feature). There's still a gap in power but nowhere near what stock vs stock is.


The ST is by all means a nice car and I'm not trying to say the Sonic is better or even on the same rung in the hot hatch niche. I'm just saying the Sonic can get pretty darn close for a significantly lower total cost ($5k in my case) and still fit 4 adults comfortably and get 40 mpg.
