The bushing I checked visually and with a pry bar, seems right as rain...if the noise gets worse I'll just buy the new KYB rear shocks and get new shock mounts.
Going back in the Dealer again....

I have a bushing at home, hard to see how that would fail...but if it's pressed fit into the rear beam..it may be loose...but the amount of rotation at that axis is pretty small... What sized socket do you think that is anyway??
The shock mounts are odd...I need to look deeper at mine. it's metal, with some rubber isolaters in there... I can't see how that would be my noise... but I'm thinking KYB's too!

Well last night I decided to empty the trunk of the hatchy of everything, all three interior peices(the subfloor, the mid floor and the whatever you want to call the cover on top thats fabric covered) also removed the spare(which even after I tightened down was still loose) and the foam that holds the spare tire accesories..went for a test drive and no more noise at all. Re-installed one by one from top to bottom since I wanted to put the spare in last thinking it might be that and my assumption was right, the spare needed some rubber bushings added to the peice you screw down to tighten it better since it made the tire and the foam shift and make noise. Hopefully for some of you this is the same problem with the easy fix.

Well, I'm back at the dealership today. This will be the 6th unscheduled visit.
1: Wind noise coming from rear hatch area. Turns out it's in all Sonic hatches, just need to put some weather stripping at the top of the hatch seal. They also replaced the front sway bar links
2: Rear noise/rattle - they said loose spare tire...um..NO
3: Leaking axle seal - fixed
4: Same rear noise/rattle - replaced shock
5: Same rear noise/rattle - replaced shocks and mounts, still not fixed
6: Leaking coolant and same rear noise/rattle - in the shop now.
I'd put those Moog stabilizer bar links on the front, and the shop foreman was wavering on voiding the suspension part of the warranty because of that. We talked and I think they'll still honor it. I told them if they wanted I'd put the old OEM links right back on (still have them, they actually look fine), and that I only put the Moogs on to see if the front noise would go away (it makes some noise too...) it didn't make it go away.
Anyway, the dealership is going to work on the leak, hopefully I'll have it back by Tuesday.
It's going to snow all hell this weekend too...crud!

Well after a lil roadtrip this weekend the noise is back (or never left) on uneven roads covered in snow or full of potholes when it hits its making a crackle or poping noise, back to the dealer again this week. I used to feel bad calling all the time about noises but as of late everytime I go in they find a problem that needs fixing so the relationship I have with my tech advisor is he knows I've checked it out the best I can before calling to have a tech look at it.

There is no sense in replacing the CV joint or the whole axle if all it needs is a new boot. Of course, it is their choice and with the labor invovled to replace the boot it is often more cost efective to replace the whole axle (especially on older cars when you use cheap Chinese stuff).

Well one of the noises as I expected was the rear brakes...they needed to be cleaned and re-adjusted(yes I went to make sure they weren't just trying to make a sale) the mechanic agreed that I had other noise issues but as with other members with this problem things checked out nothing broken or damaged so they sent me on my way after I paid the bill. Happy..only that the brake noise is gone, other noise I'll make it my mission next week at work to take the whole fn rear interior apart to find that noise.

I've had that rear apart myself. Under the plastic is a bcm (body control module) and bare metal.
My only other thought is to remove the shock on that side and very slowly go for a drive love bumpy road....I mean slooooow with only speeding up over the bump.
The frequency of the sound mine makes matches the shock motion perfectly. And in warmer weather is almost not there

Well today was warmer out but still well below freezing...since the sun was out I decided to go buck wild, took the rear shock assemblies apart, changed out the bumpstops to the Eibach ones(hadn't done that yet) removed the heat shield for the muffler since even with it as tight as it could go it still made noise, I now have 4 oem rubber exhaust hangers holding the ZZP muffler in place(instead of 2), taken apart and re-installed the interior trim, removed my daughters car seat...last resort will be the removal of the rear bumper to see if anything inside is loose or rubbing/touching. I must agree with you on the fact when its warmer the sound isn't as bad but its still there, with GMs help or not I'm gonna figure this **** out.

I need to (and haven't done it) have someone else drive and I just hang out in the hatch area to see if it coming from the shock, the spring or the bushing area....
Have you looked hard at the shock mount (the top part?) Isn't there a rubber piece in there? Is it possible our shocks are compressing that rubber then banging back again??

After watching F&F 6 last night just for fun there was a point in the movie when Shaw has a spark plug in his hands and says sometimes its the smallest thing that can cause most problems(or something like that anyways) this morning after dropping my daughter at daycare I looked at my hatch when it was open and thought maybe this...end up taking off the plastic cover where the hatch lock is and I re-adjusted the bushings and my tool bag had some grease in it so I decided to lube them and the lock..guess what, no more noise. All that fuss for the smallest fix

Not the large one, the small one at the bottom of your hatch where the locking mechanism is. The bushings are on plain site.
