Auto to Manual?

I'm not at all sure if you could do this but is it at all possible to swap out and auto trans for a manual trans in the sonics? If so what would have to be done/ how hard would it be? Would the dealer do it or would it have to be done aftermarket? And what would be a estimate on how much it would run to do so?

Considering the effort, cost, and hassle; you might be better off trading in the auto for a Sonic with manual. The biggest hurdle I can think of is the PCM. Dealerships are really against reflashing them to anything other than your car's VIN. Which will tell their system to load the auto programming.

And you can't use a PCM from another Sonic because it will have another car's VIN and trip the theft deterrent system when it compares with the VIN stored in the other modules.

Maybe contact Trifecta and see if they have a solution.

Could it be done? Sure. As already mentioned, would it be cost effective? No.

It is definitely less involved to go from an auto to a manual, than the other way around.

In 10+ years when you can pick up a manual trans for our cars in a junk yard for $50 then it will be cost effective. By then there will be all kinds of write ups on exactly what you need to do and get to make it work right. But right now if you really want a manual then you need to just sell or trade.
