INSANE hail damage to wife's 14 civic.

The car finally got picked up by the tow truck after we waited on it for four hours. The hail was at least grape fruit sized. Some pieces looked as big around as CDs. Luckily my wife wasn't injured. Now she knows to check the weather and not drive when there are hail warnings. Unfortunately she was completely unaware of the hail warning and out running errands. This was a $25,000 car that might be totaled. These pictures do not show all of the damage. I took a picture of the biggest piece of hail I saw near me, but it had been melting in summer heat for hours already.

No. Only one side of town got hit. I live in an apartment, so at least the repairs would have been free!

now do some research and see what wind speed would be required to hold one of those up in the air long enough..... that's amazing!!

The stronger the updraft is, the larger the hail can be. It takes an updraft of 55+ mph to create hail the size of a golf ball, and an updraft of 90+ or more mph to create hail the size of a baseball.
It usually takes hail the size of a hen’s egg to dent a car, but hail the size of baseballs can kill animals who can't find a sheltering tree that breaks the fall of the fall.

biggest I've seen (which hit my roof) was between golfball and lemon... not every one, it was like 1 in 100..
I was standing in my driveway and I hear "whack" and there's a big one in the middle of our street....

Then a few more "whacks"...

That would not surprise me at all... I just don't watch the news anymore so I don't know, it's too dam depressing out there. The stuff I really need to know is on reddit before the news anyhow.

Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E source their water primarily from the ocean. Technically part of California is a desert, so it would be a good idea for them to start desalinating.
