Tire pressure light

The tire pressure light on my wife's LT comes on at highway speeds. All tires are filled to required spec. Once she gets off the highway, the light goes off.

The tires were rotated a few weeks ago and have not yet been "relearned," but I'm doubtful that this is the problem. Could one of the sensors been knocked loose during rotation.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Mine will do this on occasion after a long highway drive, too. I'm wondering if the centripetal force affects the TPM? Too bad we can't get a live tire pressure readout through Onstar RemoteLink or OBDLink.

I'm taking my car in on Friday to get the unresponsive key fob issue fixed and will mention the TPM issue as well. Maybe a reprogram will fix it.

Some systems can throw a light after rotation without relearn, but I don't think we do.

I would mention it to the dealer. Could be one of the sensors has been damaged.

When I had my tires rotated a few weeks back, they forgot to relearn them. That's when I first noticed the light on the highway. But I have since had them relearned and can still get the light.

Hmm, good to know. I haven't had to rotate tires on mine yet.

I should clarify that there's no reason it would be on highway only due to the rotation, atleast that I can think of. I'm not very well versed in diagnostics for these systems though.

Have either of you had tires mounted on the wheel recently, where they could have been damaged?

When the tire pressure light (or any indicator light) comes on, please feel free to press the OnStar button in your vehicle to receive an On-Demand Diagnostic. The advisor will send a signal to the vehicle, scanning your vehicle's critical system, and inform you of any error codes returned, as well as your current reported tire pressure and oil life. The diagnostic takes approximately 30 seconds to run. This may indicate why your tire pressure monitor light is on during highway driving. I hope this helps!

2013 Sonic RS has had ghost errors with the temp sensor. Using my Onstar APP checked, and right rear showed -1 psi pressure, but the time was fine. The next day it was cleared up-- then the light came on again. I checked the pressure with the Onstar APP... both rear tires -1 psi pressure (but both were fine). This went on for 2 days-- then stopped-- It's been fine for about 3 months. Now one of the rears is showing up as low (-1 psi) (does it right rear one min, then left rear the next). To top it off, my girlfriend's HHR has popped up with a 99 psi tire out of no where, then within a few min goes back to normal pressure.

AWACS plane in the area affecting 300 mhz communication between the wheel sensors?

Between her weird vehicles and my sonic... I am not sure I'll stick around to 100k at this rate.

How low does the tire pressure have to be for the light to come on? I'm assuming it needs to be more than 1psi below suggested spec.

Around 8lbs based on personal experience; I do not recall seeing the number published.

That's what I hate about this electronic stuff sometimes. Just more things to go wrong... I kinda miss the simplicity of my Corolla CE (aka Crappy Edition). Just manual doors and windows, basic radio, tachometer, speedometer, gas gauge, and a few lights.

It's one thing to have a system become more technologically advanced (brakes, engine control, etc) that really benefit from it.

But a $250 sensor set that is a total pain in the ass for anyone involved from owner to servicer to manufacturer, to remind someone to do basic effing driver responsibility and keep your tires aired up Is STUPID.

How low does the tire pressure have to be for the light to come on? I'm assuming it needs to be more than 1psi below suggested spec.

I have a slow leak in one tire and it triggers the light around 25psi.

I've had mine freak out at 36 before. Blanked out the dash for it.
