Another tune question

So I have been doing some research and will be pulling the trigger in a few months on the notorious all power full tune and can't decide between HPtuners and trifecta. I am well aware the benefits if trifecta (data logging, free upgrade, ect.) but what exactly is the big deal about HP tuners. Do you have to tune it yourself or do they tune for you.

I have a friend who purchased 8 credits (only to only use 2) on his pontiac G5 and he offered to mess with my sonic for freeeeee but he didn't have a clue how to tune it. Hptuners I believe has a forum for users who have done Sonic recomendations.

So purchase canned tuned and have a bunch of free/generally safe upgrades or tune yourself and do WHATEVER and I mean WHATEVERRRRR you want because there is so much stuff you can choose from lol

Pretty much this. If you just want it tuned then HPTuners is probably not what you're looking for.

Frankly Im surprised there arent any other tuners who are using HPT/EFILive to tune our Sonics (1.8 HPT only for now).

If you want to hook a cable up and press a few buttons then HPTuners isnt for you, I like the "grassroots" tuning vibe this forum's getting for the 1.4s but it still requires datalogging and understanding how/what the ECM (and TCM if auto) wants and is doing. Plus you need a wideband O2 sensor, seen a few engines blow up because someone fat fingered a value in the MAF curve or VE table and it goes lean under WOT. Not good.

You can get a tune with Hp tuners at a local Dyno shop who uses it if you don't want to do it yourself. Also, Hp tuners has access to more tables than trifecta so you can actually get a better safer more reliable tune with it, while making more power.

Can you get the no lift shift with HP Tuners? or is that a trifecta only?

haha, yes it is possible but it appears to take some tweaking. maybe if you follow what they did there it wouldn't be so bad

yeah ill have to take a look i have an hp tuner here who tunes alot of cars. if they cant figure it out ill just stick with trifecta+

If you do your research and use a wide band with making very small changes you will be fine. You could always take it to the local dyno shop and just let them do it as well.

But I plan on bigger injectors, BOV, and other stuff you would have to retune for. Is it very hard to figure how to do if I have a shop with HPtuner tune it then adjust for that stuff my self later?

True, again let me stress that getting a max effort/hp tune ISNT what you really want. Yes it will make great power at WOT, but it takes time to build and test a good tune. If a shop has done a few Sonic/Cruze's, then I'd have a lot more confidence taking my vehicle there. If they dont and havent tuned a DOHC VVT engine before...Id look elsewhere.
