My 2012 LTZ Hatchback has been at the dealer since last Thursday for the air bag and also the transmission shaft recall. I called today and the transmission parts have been replaced and the transmission goes back in tomorrow morning. My service advisor did say I was lucky in getting mine in early as the transmission parts are going to be in very short supply soon. I will get the whole story tomorrow when I pick it up and post it here.

SUMMARY:
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2012 Chevrolet Sonic vehicles manufactured March 1, 2012, to June 29, 2012, and equipped with a 6 speed automatic transmission and 1.8L four cylinder engine. In the affected vehicles, the transmission turbine shaft may fracture.
CONSEQUENCE:
If the transmission turbine shaft fracture occurs during vehicle operation in first or second gear, the vehicle will not upshift to the third through sixth gears, limiting the vehicle's speed. If the fracture occurs during operation in third through sixth gear, the vehicle will coast until it slows enough to downshift to first or second gear, increasing the risk of a crash.
REMEDY:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the transmission turbine shaft, free of charge. The recall began on August 8, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 14234.

Yes, I got a call from the dealer late yesterday afternoon that my Sonic was finished. I picked it up this morning and all seems well. This transmission recall task is quite a large undertaking and takes quite awhile to complete it.

Here is a list of the items replaced:
Ring, shaft, seal kit, fluid, coolant, 2 gaskets, 8 bolts, 3 nuts, and a washer. They also had to do a front end alignment.

Are you sure they replaced the transmission fluid? I had a Chevrolet with transmission problems and they drained the fluid then poured it back instead of replacing it. The old fluid had pieces of he gasket in it which clogged one of the transmission valves causing it not to shift intermittently. It took me weeks and 2 dealers to get if corrected, this was with a full warranty.

If you mean did I watch them do the several day job the answer is no, I didn't! I trust my dealer to do what is right.
