Good evening y'all, it's been awhile since I've been on here. I sold my Jeep several months ago and the wife and I have only had 1 car. We're thinking about getting a 2nd car and I came back to the Sonic. I really like these cars. I will buy used, so my question is is there any differences between 2012-2014 or should I avoid any? I'm out at sea right now and the internet is slow. That's why I'm asking. Thanks.

14s have the upgraded clutch and I think they also dont have the popcorn starts on a Ecp tune by trifecta.

The Onstar Wi-Fi is not a big selling point, IMO. The expense for a data plan only usable in your car is excessive. You'd be better off getting a FreedomPop MiFi. 5gb of Onstar Wifi is $50/month. 5gb of FreedomPop is $40/month. To compare the low end, 200mb Onstar for $5/mo, 500mb FreedomPop for $4/mo or free if you stick to 4G.
Same as buying minutes on an Onstar 'phone'. Just not worth it.

Wife currently has a '15 Malibu loaner from the dealer with the OnStar wifi, great for the kids but like stated above, once the "free" trial were to end I don't think it'd be worth the extra $texas$ to keep the service.

The minutes typically have a year expiration date from the day they were purchased, and require an active OnStar subscription in order to be used. At any time before the minutes expire you can purchase another small bundle, we usually have a promotional 30 minute bundle available to extend and roll over any remaining minutes. I hope this helps!

I hadn't looked into the cost. I can live without it for that price. I still want to trade in the 2012 (minus the mechanical upgrades) for a 2015.

The 15 Antennas look bulky and much more ugly than the 12-14 model years. When I seen a 15 sonic on a lot first thing I seen was that antenna and I was like ew

I think certain 2012s have a belly pan. It may help with MPGs.

The 14 definitely has some kind of fairing underneath the front. Did GM eventually come up with a modified version of the belly pan or else move the oil drain?
Wish I'd known about the new clutch for the 14. Might have gotten the MT instead of the auto. Then again, the auto has been very handy in city traffic and it was nice not to have to mess around with tracking down a spare tire and jack.
