Can you shift from D to M while the car is moving?

Checked the manual and it doesn't say you can't, but I haven't done it just in case. It says don't shift to reverse though so I don't know. Anyone tried?

When i test drove the cruze the salesman shifted to manual while i was driving and i cant think of any damage that could be done but i would wait to hear from a technician though

No damage. It's all electronic. You're not actually moving anything mechanical in the transmission. You're just telling the computer that you would prefer to select from the available forward gears for a while.

yeah i'm pretty sure if it would cause some damage it wouldn't even let you do it anyways since this cars are pretty smart at preventing things like that happening while in motion and all

If it's anything like the automatic in the 5th-gen Camaro, it's perfectly fine -- I shift between D and M all the time.

(Cue the "OMG why'd you get an auto Camaro??" responses. )

Another dumb question....do you take your foot off the gas when button shifting? I haven't been...

Nope, just like driving a regular auto.

I have done it with both the Terrain and the Sonic. Unlike the Terrain, the Sonic behaves perfectly staying in the current gear allowing you to down shift only if you want to. I have a grouping of 3 steep hills on my drive, and use the manual mode and down shift so the cruise can handle the hills more consistently. (otherwise I get a +-4mph swing)

I wish it would shift a little quicker...

On mine, if you don't hit the upshift button by 5000 rpm it'll run in to the rev limiter before it shifts...
