I dont think dropping a second off of stock times is all that bad for the minimal mods at the time. Last trip to the track was DDMW intake, high flow second cat and 2.5" exhaust, and very minimal tweaks with HPT. SO in reality, not much work done.
You can claim the giggle gas is not abusive all you want but I have talked to enough people that actually used it to have my own opinions about how abusive it is. We also know from experience on this forum that the trans in the 1.8 wont last with it.
I was hoping for better out of the car, but I am content with how it is performing now. Not sure what you dont understand about that.
This isnt some Honda that responds to minor changes. I dont know why everyone keeps trying to compare the 1.8 in the Sonic to a Honda 1.8.
Non-VTEC Hondas don't respond any different. How many fast Acuras do you see with near stock non-VTEC engines?
You can get a D series to respond to things not available to the Sonic, there is three times as many parts available for it.
I could have dropped a second off the stock times by just running better tires.
Seriously, put on a 50hp shot and some slicks or drag radials, you'll be running as quick as most of the turbo guys are.
As long as your bottle pressure keeps your A/F ratio in-check you won't have any problems short or long term.
Nitrous gets the reputation it gets from it's low price of entry and people abusing it.
Otherwise without lots of compression and hot cams, you won't go much faster.
What happens too often is that people buy nitrous spin the hell out of the tires, run a 15 at 98 mph and think a turbo would be a better investment.
If you take it seriously and work on getting the power to the ground instead of constantly increasing power, you wouldn't need much more than a 75hp shot to run 13's.
