Hello to all. The random question was who makes the sonic. I entered union labor, but that was rejected. That was the biggest selling point for me as there are other cars that are cheaper & more fuel efficient.
Me? I'm old school, big believer in built here, bought here. The job you save may be your own. I have made money working in both GM & Ford assembly plants, both of which have long since closed. End of new guy rant.

Are you asking where the Sonic is made in Michigan? Based on the rest of your comments, it sounds like you already know.

I did end up choosing the Sonic because it is built nearby unlike all the other small cars. I really like my Subaru but its not built locally either. They just announced that the local plant will no longer be building the Corolla, which is a shame.

The answer was rejected since it is incorrect. While the car is final assembled with union labor I would have to assume that most of the component/sub assemblies are non union assembled or produced. Part of the plant is even leased to a sub assembly non union supplier, or at least was back in 2010/2011.

some is and some isnt. Some panels are stamped there and some pieces are imported and welded together. I cant recall exactly what parts were stamed in the plant though. Its been a few years since I was in there.

Korean auto workers are represented by the Korean Auto Workers union.

Interesting question about that inside Orion sub-assembly company; I recall there were negotiations going on about organizing those employees but not what happened.

I imagine more components are being local sourced as time goes by as that was a stated goal when the Sonic came on line at the Orion plant. GM has been putting a ton of money in the Pontiac Metal Stamping plant as well as Orion and recently announced another hundred million for the Pontiac plant.

The Corvette is produced with the most US sourced parts of any car and is assembled in Kentucky by members of the UAW.

While I do realize that 100% made in the USA vehicles are a thing of the past, I try my best to make it here, keep it here. The sonic was the only choice for me,for its size & price as it gets nearly triple the mpg my dodge p/u does & I can easily find parking spots that it will fit into. Luckily I got her when gas prices were low, so more buyers were getting the larger rides, helping to keep the lil car prices down.
