Waste gate rod wear

Is this normal wear on a waste gate rod I think this caused my p0299 code the other day??

That looks excessive to me, I know the specs for the wear are somewhere on this forum but I think it was around a mm of play, maybe 1.5 mm.

Seems like the car surges with power sometimes got the cel on Friday but now it's off maybe the computer tries to compensate for the excessive wear I do have a tune don't have a boost gauge to see how much it's looses but I know the other day if fell flat on its face in traffic I couldn't pass a semi.last couple days it's been ok but I know with that slop it has to be surging on boost

I tried to measure the gap but it every bit of 2mm from what I read it not suppose to have hardly any play I read .16 to .32 so where in between but it prob north of .60 just a bit more info about it hard to say if the pin or the rod got wore out or maybe both

This is exactly what just happened with mine, after fighting with the dealship my turbo is being replaced tomarrow. Don't let them tell u its not covered under the powertrain, because it is. My dealer tried to pull one on me and I threated to sue them. Now they are kissing my ass up and down

Correct. We have had a few customers come to us asking to take a look at a log because they suddenly started having issues with boost fluctuating or inconsistent delivery. Too much play in the WG rod was the cause.

They too had to make a case for themselves at the dealer to have them take their issue seriously but worked itself out in the end. One I know for sure, received a whole new turbo.

Just goes to show that not all things are tune related. Especially if the car was running fine and the suddenly developed a problem.

Went to dealer today shop Forman took a look at it said new turbo no question asked.. So glad I didn't have to go around with them..had them look at a possible oil leak on drivers side as well could be main seal.. Hopefully get my car back in a day or so

Yes hope to get it back soon.i just wonder how much it affected my performance I will have to retune my car when I get it back to see how good it will run.i put it back to stock before taking the car in..

Mine was replaced for the same issue, along with water pump and transmission if im not mistaken it was at 60k miles. Car ran fine after everything was replaced. Due to some pretty bad customer service issues with trifecta, i havent been able to retune the car after the swap, because they were trying to charge me.

I tried to upload the same previous tune i had before the turbo swap, and i got the same p0299 code every other day on my way to work. With a new turbo

Got my car back today noticed hearing the turbo much sooner then before.looking at the waste gate rod on a new turbo it is very stiff and no play at all!!mine must have been wasted cause it was very sloppy.Car seems to have much better power that before even without the tune in place..on a note the dealer forgot to put the studs back on for my heat shield I even had the heat shield in the passenger side floorboard. I guess they figure I didn't want to put it back on from reading they say it will cool engine bay temp down and keep heat on exhaust and the turbo.. But prob doesn't make a whole lot of difference but it may..have to go back by tomorrow so they can put it on..
