I just had my 3rd oil change done. I requested that the dealer replace the drain plug oring this time, as it was leaking a bit after the last change. I even went over to the parts counter to buy some of these special orings, only to find out that no dealer in my area carries them! They replaced my whole drain plug instead. My question to the internets is this: what size oring is needed for the drain plug? I would like to replace it at every change, but need to know what to buy first.

Can you order an o ring or two from your dealer? Pick them up when they come in and then find an outside supplier of them?

Go down to Harbor Freight and buy an O-Ring kit .

Just did my 2nd oil change on this car.
It takes mine just over 1 year for the oil life to get down to single digits.
It was at 1%, 15199 miles.
This was the first oil change in my 15+ years of doing it that I didn't get a single drop of oil on the driveway. So proud.

Just did my 1st oil change on our 2015 Sonic at 3435 miles . Oil change indicator showed I still had 56% oil life left . I figure the oil will have the maximum amount of wear particles in it , after the burrs and high spots wear off , at 3000 miles .
I am suppose to get 4 free oil changes from Chevy . Will probably take it in for the first free change when the oil change indicator gets into the single digits .
Used an AC Delco filter . Wow is that a dinky little thing ! And Mobil Super Synthetic 5w-30 Dexos oil . Filled up the wind shield washer fluid & visually inspected the brake fluid & coolant . No dipstick to inspect the automatic transmission . Hate that ! :-(
Does this thing have electric power steering ? Do not remember seeing a P/S pump , to check that fluid . To my knowledge , no grease zerts to grease ?
Can not claim I spilled no oil . And the first thing I did , try as I might not to , was drop the drain plug into the drain pan ! :-(
I took my time with the oil filter . Hoping the waste oil in the drain pan would cool off some . NOT ! It was still HOT when I had to fish the drain plug out of the old oil .
The new oil filter came with a new green O-Ring . I replaced the existing one & saved the old one .
Wiped it clean and let it cool for a little while .
Poured 4 quarts of oil into the engine & started it . Let it run for a couple of minutes then shut it off . Checked the dip stick and slowly resumed adding oil from the 5th quart . Poured , checked the dip stick . Repeated until the dip stick showed full . Ended up taking about 4-3/4 quarts .
Did not replace the O-Ring on the drain plug . It looked OK .
I will save the rest of that quart & put it into my oil can to use on various pieces of equipment .
This is my first experience with synthetic oil .

It was time for another oil change for me. I've got to say, the honeymoon is over. I crawled underneath it and found my oil pan was covered in oil. Last time it was changed, I had the dealer do it. They told me they changed the drain plug because they couldn't just change the oring. I personally find this to be crap, but hey, why would you want to insert logic into an argument with a dealer? I believe the oring should be changed at every OCI, but I couldn't find out what size I would need until I dropped the oil plug again. I mic'ed the oring and the slot it fits in, and found some interesting #'s. The oring measure 20x24, 2mm dia. The SLOT measured 19x24, 2.5mm recess. So now the question is, which should I go with, the 19mm or 20mm? I'll buy both if I can find it locally.

Yeah I've never changed the ring on my drain plug either and have had no troubles. I change the ring on my oil filter cap every change because why not it comes with the filter. My oil was quite dark this change and only went a little over 4k miles but it was only my first change with switching to full synthetic so I'm thinking its just cleaning up the engine. I got the car at 30k miles and its at almost 38 now but I've done 2 oil changes in those times because idk what the original owner had done. but I retained all the warranties so I'm sure he kept up with maitenance....well actually nvm he never rotated the oem tires so who knows the hell he put my baby through..its okay I'm treating my baby like a king drinking on chevron and mobil 1 full synthetic

Lawnmower??taking cre of my lawnmower is just as important to me as my car!!So it deserves just as good of oil!!
Well, I did my first oil change by myself today. Decided I wasn't going to pay the dealer $100+ to do a full synthetic oil change and tire rotation. It took me about 2 hours to get it all done, but I am pretty sure I can make it faster next time! I used 4.2 quarts of Pennzoil platinum and an ac delco oil filter for my 2014 1.4 Turbo Sonic. It feels good to have saved so much money by doing it myself. Only worry now is if the dealership will honor the power train warranty if I ever need it!

HEY GUISE! my jug said 15k miles guaranteed but i don't think that's legit... it's been about 10k already and I wanna do it ASAP! also... If I remember right I used about just about right under the bottom mark line on the jug of my oil (whatever is on the left side quarts or liters or whatever) amirite?
