Why did you choose Sedan or Hatchback?

Agreed! I own an manual-tranny AWD Subaru wagon and would have bought a manual-tranny AWD Sonic wagon in a heartbeat. But that ain't gonna happen!

My 2015 Sonic is going great so far (just broke 3K miles), the sedan is a bit longer than the hatch...makes carrying the occasional 8ft 2x4 easier...seats down of course.

I'm a hatchback guy. I think they generally look better and have better space usage. However, I need to both haul my kids in the back and tote a guitar with me. The only choice was a sedan. That said, I've come to appreciate the quietness of the sedan and its shape. Just need a wing to make it look good.

You asked for a Sonic wagon and Chevy is building them now. Styling is a subjective thing - not everyone is going to love every car design.

People buy/bought these, yet I think they are ugly....

People are buying the Trax...

Since the 1st of the year (Trax just introduced) almost as many Trax have been sold as Sonic hatches and sedans combined. In February nearly 1000 more Trax were sold vs Sonic hatch and sedans combined (3,821 Traxs vs 2900 Sonics).

All the cars that I've ever owned were hatchbacks except my 96 Corsica, which was an awesome car. Decided to get the sedan this time because I think it looks good, has a lot of trunk space, and just for a change after having so many hatchbacks. And having it now for 8 months, I'm glad I got the sedan.

I posted before that I went with the Hatch because I needed the Storage. Coming from a Grand Cherokee it matched up better for my needs. It's usually just me and maybe one other person, so back seats always down so I can carry all my toys like Clubs, Pitching Machine, volleyball set-up, etc.... Or I use the back for computers and 18 gal storage bins for working.

A sedan couldn't handle those needs.

BUT.... I just took a trip to Great Wolf Lodge. Only 5 of us (2 Adults, two teens and a toddler). With just 2 days worth of stuff, and the back floor removed, that rear end was packed to the top as well as under the toddlers feet. If we were to go somewhere for any longer, we'd have never had enough storage, unless I put on a roof rack or had a trailer. I don't think a sedan would have helped me here either.

I'd love Swordsmith's version of a Sonic wagon, but until it comes along, I think I am going to upgrade to a Trax (LT w/roof rack) within a year. Possibly a Subaru Wagon...

The used lot we got our Sonic from had 2 sonics. Both 1.4L manual, both the same year and nearly identical mileage. Similar price. Both metallic black. Only differences were that one was the sedan, one was the hatch, and the hatch also had the touchscreen, which my wife didn't care about, and the Sonic was to be her car. At first she was really concerned about the lower visibility from the large C pillars on the hatch, but once she saw they'd provided bubbles on the side mirrors, she was ok with that. She ended up liking the hatch better, so we got it.

I feel like the hatch is more funky/sporty, where the sedan is more classy. For some the importance is in the functional differences, for some it's the styling/image difference. Ours was more about function, but we liked the hatch styling a bit better too.

I got my LT hatchback because it was the only trim with the manual at the dealer at the time, also it's the promotional package and they gave me a sick military discount!

I hate sedans in general and wish that it had only two doors, but it is my new Citation x-11 of course.... I need to test drive a turbo version to compare to my 1.8L.

Hatchback because I'm from South Africa and I'm 21, so it was a no brainer, I think we are trained to love hatchbacks here until you are older or a farmer

Well, my Sonic ordered on 11/3/11 went to event status 3000 on 11/8/11 and is still there today.
After 2 months with no progress, I am a bit frustrated. Fortunately I am under no obligation to buy it when it arrives.Paris shuttle transfers
I ordered because 1.4T Sonics were not in circulation; but now, I think I can find one locally that suits me.

At this point, I'm not real strongly decided either way between the hatchback and the sedan and would really appreciate input on your preference and why.

I used to "eh" on wagons and dislike hatchbacks, but the boy LOVES wagons and like hatches, that is, if it looks good. The volvo C30 we both equally dislike.

Time went by and now i'm a wagon fan and if the right hatch comes along in the right color, I dig it! I feel it's a lot more fun than the sedan and more sporty.

I prefer the trunk that no one can see inside & be temped to steal stuff . Lower viability AND , HOPEFULLY higher security .

Also , a hatch looks like a teen car . I have not been a teen in a LONG time .

Actually there's a cover on the hatches for the backspace which hides whatever you put there. Well, unless you fold the back seats down then it's basically pointless.

EDIT: But I agree the hatches are geared toward the younger crowd.

I think they look better, and the functionality is fantastic for me. I'm rarely driving with people in the back seat, so being able to use all that room for more stuff is a huge plus.

Also, they look better. I've kinda always wanted a hot hatch. This isn't really "hot" but it's plenty fun for me!

When the first Sonics were first unveiled (2012?) I really preferred the hatchback. Maybe it was my relative youth, or maybe they've refined the sedans.. but now I prefer the sedans.

Also they're cheaper.

I ended up getting an ashen gray sedan. However I do bike a lot and would have liked the versatility of that back. Nothing a nice bike rack wont fix!

My Choice Was Easy

My mother was the first owner in 2012 and she bought it to replace our 1993 Saturn that was getting harder to get parts for (I do all my own work) and was getting to the point of needing a lot (even with discounted parts) to be worth it, including a new subframe.

I sold the car for parts/as a commuter car to someone in NJ and he loves it....

So, I took the Sonic (sedan) on as a commuter car and it's been pretty good since. Easy to park, good mileage, fairly comfortable and easy to handle.

Some of the materials could be better quality, but I suppose what do you get for less than $17k out the door....
