6MT transmission control module?

Hey everyone,

My trans is finally being fixed at the dealer. 2nd gear began grinding way back from hard shifting and then went out randomly months later, then 3rd started to grind. Finally saved enough cash to bring it into the dealer.

After a few days of working on it and a few other issues with the car, the service guy said the tech had to replace and reprogram the transmission control module, and that the car should be shifting fine, and will check it out again tomorrow to see how it shifts.

I'd like to believe that the dealer is reputable and honest, but I've never heard of a TCU/TCM on a manual trans car... especially one which would cause gears to start grinding and completely go out Anyone have any info about this before I pick it up at the dealer? (have around 60k miles, with 100k powertrain warranty)

There is no TCM on the manual cars, just an ECM. You're not crazy, the tech is.

Isn't the trans covered under the 100k?

LMFAO i've heard a LOT of B.S. from dealerships in my years, but TCM on a manual trans car has to be the one that is the dumbest. They could've at least TRIED to make it seem like something else more probable

Ya sneaker, it's still covered under warranty however they fix it.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty sure the 2nd gear synchro/clutches are toast and third is starting to come loose. It should all be repaired under the warranty, but I'll call the dealer today and ask em more about the problem. Didn't think I was crazy, should be a fun conversation opcorn:

Update - dealer service rep called and said the tech did confirm it was skipping 2nd. Thanks, it took em a day to confirm that. And tomorrow they'll tear down the trans and assess the situation. Meaning they'll pull it out and I guess crack the case and look at it, I thought they'd just replace it. No mention of the TCU/TCM today, this is all I have to say to him...

Just an update and close to this thread. Dealer decided that the internal parts aren't able to be serviced and replaced the entire trans. It's just too bad it took em a two weeks to figure that out. Noe they're onto fixing some type of internal oil seal that blew - turbo or piston ring maybe.
