Hey guys my name is Josh and just recently purchased a used 2012 Sonic LTZ. Been in love with the car before I owned one and love it every day I drive it.

Back story:
I used to drive a 2005 Aveo that I nodded for awhile to be different. Loved the car but thought it was time to upgrade plus I really wanted a stick shift.

Currently:
After I decided to trade my baby in there was only one car that I would trade it in for. I got my 2012 Sonic LTZ 6spd turbo last year and love it ever since.

I started this build thread to keep track of my mods and progress with the car and to also get inputs from the sonic community as well.

I'm currently undecided on what coilovers to get though and not sure if I should get cx racing or the Megan 32 way. I'm also looking into buying MFabs intake really soon. Any input/feedback is appreciated!

Definatly a big upgrade from the Aveo I had. It was my first car and the first car I ever modded. Just ordered my intake and shifter bushing for my sonic so happy can't wait till they arrive.

The bushing is a nice upgrade... you can't take the shifter knob off very easily, so I just pulled the shifter boot up, then carefully pulled the Styrofoam bit beneath that, then it's just unscrew, put in new part, screw back in...

The intake is just as simple, you'll notice a hiss now that the OEM will be gone, that's the bypass valve (I also replaced that with aftermarket, the OEM is plastic)

You'll also want to look into some gauge(s).. I put a boost gauge right next to the instrument pod (that was fun drilling a 2" hole in the dash)..but it helps! And I've got a temp/oil pressure gauge and pod to do when it warms up)...check out my build thread :)

In fact, check out all the builds...there's some awesome mods out there! AndrewGS's is wicked!

I definatly will thanks for the input! I've been lurking the forums for a little but I never really posted till now. There is definatly a lot of inspiring builds and ideas here. So many great looking sonics. Its nice to see everyone's own little different touch. Here in Orlando people like to hate unless you drive a beat up Honda lol.

If your not as invested like Natesriv at drilling a hole in the dash you can also get a ultra gauge like I did. I have boost and temp constantly on it then it scrolls through other things I'll want to check every once in a while

Drill baby drill!

The UG is great too, BTW, but for an old school look, that spot in the dash is nothing, there's really nothing behind there, just open space. Plus there's a rubber plug in the firewall right behind it. Now be careful on this part though... it's a thick rubber, so a drill big works to make a hole in it (not too large though, and you don't want to hit any wires/tubes in that area with the bit).. heck if I did it, ANYONE can :)

UPDATE!

So all the parts came in nicely and was able to finally put them all on!



Loving it so far! Love the intake and suspension is really smooth. Love the ride! Now saving for the zzp turbo back exhaust unless there is a better on the market lol.

Thanks bro! I'm loving it I really enjoy this car. Wish I had the fund to keep buying parts lol. Wheels are 17x7.5. I'm happy with looks for now so saving for performance now
