This is pretty cool to read. I just happen to have a custom Mishimoto baffled catch (probably the best on the market) and I had the AN fittings reduced to 5/8, or 6AN. I was afraid i wasted having it modified from the 8AN, but it seems it is now back in the game! If anyone wants to see mine I can PM pics, or post them up here before i install it.

Very interesting topic. As a Harley owner, I can tell you what a mess oil mist back into the intake will make. The Harley "Twin cam" engines (98-present) uses a reed valve in the top of the heads, and directs blow by back into the air cleaner. In short order, it's dripping on your leg. The single biggest problem with sucking oil mist back into the engine is this:

That is carbon build up. A catch can, or back to oil pan system is a must if you step into it from time to time. The cleaner you can make it inside the engine, the better. It is after all, an air pump.

I would use nice parts for a little dress up. Run down to your speed shop, or the online versions (Jegs, summit racing), and use SS flex hoses and blue/red AN fittings. I don't have my car yet, but this is a first week mod for sure.

Certainly would help, but if one is just fine with a peppy turbo (or 1.8), then a simple AOS system is just the ticket.

@law, so if you were to buy a 3/8 inch NPT to 1/2inch Barb fitting like these Moroso NPT to Hose Barb Fittings 65390 Racing could you just get 2 lengths (or one long length and cut it) of 1/2inch heater hose? Or what type of hose would be best for a catch can since the hose will be under vaccume?

I had that $20 catch can on my 1.8 it was a tight clean fit, but later threw a check engine. Dont know why , but i just removed it a reset the lamp. Didnt hiss like a vacuum leak, idled rough and sounded weird like a whiny noise . Nothing since the removal. Is a catch can needed on the 1.8?
