You can probably guess from the title...

One day... yes... ONE DAY after picking up my new Sonic I took it to show it off, and out of no where my friends dog jumped on the hood and scratched the hell out of it trying to gain traction!

I don't think any of the scratches made it thru the clear coat, but there are numerous white claw marks on my black hood now.

How would you guys go about getting it back to a new looking finish?

Buffer with polishing compound to start... And patience... If that doesn't do it, rubbing compound, then polishing compound, then wax.

oh this is a good topic! I had swirl marks under the black vinyl on my pillars when i took it off.

I'll have some pics shortly... gonna rinse away the road dust and see how gangrenous the wounds really are.

Could be worse ... could have been your wife driving on a back road and hit a stray puppy.

The pup got up and ran off without a hitch in its step. The Sonic got a new front fascia and lower grille insert. That was one of 4 times it's been replaced.

Sucks though, if a finger nail won't catch the scratches, it should buff out fine.

Meguiars Ultimate Compound if the scratches are only minor, then polish & wax. If you can feel the scratches they won't polish out.

The dealership fixed my scratches for free. They saw the scratches were small and it would only take a few minutes using a burning method. Could ask them to just look at it.
