Twice in the last Week I left my car running while I Put fuel in it(I know I should shut it off, But I did not). While I was fueling up up the car stalled. Has anyone else seen this. I would think it would be from the lack of vacuum once the gas cap is off. Just want to make sure there is nothing wrong.

it sounds like just that. it knows the gas cap is off and probably has a nanny function to shut it down for safety.

Has happened to me, as well. It's likely a safety feature as peckerwood pointed out.

They have nannies to protect us from ourselves.
Easy fix, make your kids pump the gas. I make my son.
He!! He's the most self sufficient kid I'd ever seen. He does his own laundry, gets himself showered and ready every morning. He even clips his own finger nails. Lol

Keeping the kids cool is a knightly thing to do, but is an explosion and endangering your families life worth the cool air?
As has already been stated, the system was in self protect mode when the pressure could not build due to the gas cap being off.

in hot dry climates its also a good idea to "ground" your hand as you touch the car so if there is any static bult up it wont do it at the nozzle end...something I saw on that 101 ways to die show on spike tc

i like to smoke cigarettes, talk on my cell phone and run in place with slippers and jogging pants on while i fuel.

A) I work with big military trucks every day. We fill them up without shutting them off fairly regularly. No issues.
B) My parents have NEVER turned their car off while fueling. No issues.
C) I do touch my car before I fuel because I, for whatever reason, ALWAYS get shocked whenever I get out of my car.
D) I have no problem smoking near fuel. Not worried at all. Haven't blown up yet.
E) I like labeling lists with letters. Numbers are good too.

I guess the fueling process is only dangerous in the Detroit area where every few months we get treated to a security camera's view of a vehicle fire at a gas station or a carjacking while a car was running while being fueled. Too bad so many car manufacturers are either HQ'd or maintain offices in this area, otherwise we may not have this nanny and perhaps many of the other nannies designed to thwart having fun during the car driving experience.

you should shut it down key off do to the evap system.and
Warning: Fuel vapor burns violently and a fuel fire can cause bad injuries. To help avoid injuries to you and others, read and follow all the instructions on the fuel pump island. Turn off the engine when refueling. Do not smoke near fuel or when refueling the vehicle. Do not use cellular phones. Keep sparks, flames, and smoking materials away from fuel. Do not leave the fuel pump unattended when refueling the vehicle. This is against the law in some places. Do not re-enter the vehicle while pumping fuel. Keep children away from the fuel pump; never let children pump fuel.
The tethered fuel cap is located behind a hinged fuel door on the passenger side of the vehicle.
To remove the fuel cap, turn it slowly counterclockwise. The fuel cap has a spring in it; if the cap is released too soon, it will spring back to the right.
Warning: Fuel can spray out on you if you open the fuel cap too quickly. If you spill fuel and then something ignites it, you could be badly burned. This spray can happen if the tank is nearly full, and is more likely in hot weather. Open the fuel cap slowly and wait for any hiss noise to stop. Then unscrew the cap all the way.
Be careful not to spill fuel. Do not top off or overfill the tank. Wait a few seconds after you have finished pumping before removing the nozzle. Clean fuel from painted surfaces as soon as possible. See“Washing the Vehicle” in Exterior Care .
When replacing the fuel cap, turn it clockwise until it clicks. Make sure the cap is fully installed. The diagnostic system can determine if the fuel cap has been left off or improperly installed. This would allow fuel to evaporate into the atmosphere. See Malfunction Indicator Lamp .
Warning: If a fire starts while you are refueling, do not remove the nozzle. Shut off the flow of fuel by shutting off the pump or by notifying the station attendant. Leave the area immediately.
