Its a really bad idea to do it that way, just a matter of time you will forget you drained the oil and start your car without oil in the AM.
Seriously?
You wouldn't remember that you had only done part of the oil change with the hood up and the drain pan still under the car? You wouldn't notice the filler cap sitting on the front panel under the hood before closing the hood?
I'm not that forgetful - and I'm a ***y senior citizen....:banana:
