Big Wang hatch spoiler build

This project originally was headed in this direction, http://www.sonicownersforum.com/for...ns/16776-spoon-style-hatch-spoiler-build.html but soon veered into a whole other lane.

I purchased a used spoiler off the great Craigslist for a steal. I knew it was going to be all cut up so I wasn't too worried about condition as long as it mounted up.

Looks like a fun start!!!

Chopped top

Chopped bottom

Ground back about an 1/8" from the seams on the bottom.

In goes the expanding foam. Its literally "Great stuff".

Layering it up

All puffed up curing

Was cured just before dark. I shaped the mount end with a blade. Added support to grow the wing out and back.

More shaping today. I have access to production wing molds. I need to narrow down the profile and add contour to the sides.

The sonic seems to be lacking in aftermarket options, so I decided to make my own. I got the second layer of foam down yesterday. Going to start carving this week.

This project hit the back burner towards the end of summer. Too many other things got in the way with available time. 4 jobs will do that to you.

I still have the wing in primer. I'm not entirely happy with how far pitched up the spoon ended so I'm more than likely going to tear into it in the spring and make some adjustments.

I think that that spoon would look fine if you blended the sides a little better, not having the boomerang look on it.

I see it just sitting on a rack in my garage every time I pull in. Definitely going to dive back into this once the snow goes away.

I'm bouta dabble into messing with expanding foam and see if I can make one of these. Prolly will start a thread in the next couple months once funds permit me to mess around.
