What ecu/ecm do we have stock?

I doubt the 1.4 is different but what do with have stock 1.8 ( auto ) cars have for the ecu/ecm

I haven't really found anything on it in the forum or anything

Although the ECM may be the same part #; they cannot be taken from one vehicle and used on another. Here is a GM TechLink post to explain further.

E78 for 1.4T, should be E83B for 1.8. TCM is GM's tried and true T43 (been around since 2006ish).

Different engines, different engine families, different aspiration (N/A vs turbo). Certain ECMs can only run certain engines due to VVT, Direct Injection, and 4/5/6/8 cylinders.

Then GM likes to use the cheapest ECM possible as different subcontractors bid to build them (from what I've seen). For example, the TrailBlazer in the same year used the E67 for the V8s and P12 for the I6. The Camaro used the E38 for the LS3/L99, E67 for LSA, and E39(A) for the V6.

What do you want to know? They're a Gen4.5 ECM (my terminology), E83B is only used in small 4cyl applications. E78 runs I4 and V8s only, no V6. Older Silverado/Sierra 6.0s used them from ~2010-2014. I call it Gen4.5 because E67 is a Gen4 and isn't Demanded-TQ based whereas the E78 is, but it's not Direct Injected (Gen5) like the E92 and E39/E39A. (There's overlap between Gen4, Gen4.5, and Gen5 ECMs in GM's lineup. Depends on engine family, last redesign date, and so forth.)

Yes, there is a difference between E83 and E83B, no idea what. GM has been known to do mid-cycle changes to the OS code that requires new hardware for the same vehicles. E39 -> E39A, T87 -> T87A, E83(A) -> E83B. I havent looked much at the E83(B) controllers.

But I was more over wondering if it would be able to support throttle by cable ( because itb plans maybe )
I know we can do e85 on both the 1.8 and 1.4 and true flex fuel ( for the 1.4 I'm not totally sure on 1.8)

I'm more over worried on boost for the 1.8 and wether or not I can run e85 more than anything ( planning turbo build sometime in the future) as well as what kind of tuning setups I can run and wether or not I can **** around with that god dam traction control ( and maybe speed up shift timing in the auto #nolsd_rip ) because it's annoying

I've been tuning GM vehicles for 11 years, have played with a bunch of different PCM/ECM/TCMs that GM makes. Plus I've spent a lot of time extensively reading EFILive and HPTuners' forums and actively contribute to them. Taken a few training courses here and there as well.

The stock OS on most (I think all, but there are some outliers I havent looked at) Gen4+ ECMs all support 255kPa of VVE and spark resolution. You can tune them for boost fairly easily if you know how to setup the table axes, wideband, and have access to a dyno.

Just checked an E83B file I have, shouldn't be hard to tweak it for boost. Has FlexFuel tables as well, just a matter of turning it on and ensuring all fuel lines are E85 compatible. I know BNR makes some larger injectors, not sure if anyone else does.

Yea eventually I'm looking at getting 52lb injectors and eventually seeing if there might be a way to retrofit for ls injectors but I doubt it

It's all in the height adapters for the injectors you choose...

But then we get into spray patterns and quality injector data (easy for GM parts, tough for aftermarket ones).

I'm more worried about diameter

Because doesn't want 210lb Bosch injectors? I know they're good and proven so *shrug*

Also we have a returnless setup right? If so... well crap I think we do

Major hurdle there well at least our engines are pretty cheap

But I still haven't been able to find wether throttle by cable would be doable yet sadly

All 1.4's and 2013+ 1.8s have a E78

2012 has a E83B and some really early 2012's have a different version of the E83
