Steering Wheel Controls Not Work/Other Random Things

Sorry if this has been posted before and solved, but I couldn't find it if it was.

2016 Sonic. For some reason my steering wheel audio/phone controls have stopped working. That, and the outside temperature is no longer listed. Finally, every time I put it in reverse, a "service rear camera" error comes up...I don't have a rear camera.

Should I just take it to the shop or is there an easy fix I'm missing?

This is probably a stupid thing to ask but have you tried unplugging the battery? You'd be surprised at just how much error is allowed in electronics and computer systems. If that doesn't work then I hope somebody has a fix for you. Good luck

Tried that, it didn't do anything. It looked like one of the battery's wires was frayed, taking it to shop tomorrow, shouldn't be anything.

It sounds like you are running the wrong version of software on your radio. Have you had the chime recall done? If so, the dealer will have to flash the correct version of software.

A couple weeks ago I had my radio lock up on my 2016 with a picture of the last time I used the backup camera. Nothing on my radio, or steering wheel controls worked until I let it sit for a while turned off. I did the thing when you reprogram the radio(turn car off, hit lock on the key fob twice, wait thirty seconds, unlock, and turn on) Your problem sounds worse and I hope my radio is not on the way to acting like yours.

I'm skipping that recall all together. I like my setup as is. I'm not worried about 10 minutes of radio then no chime...

I bought mine certified, and am still within the bumper to bumper, damned dealership is like a pitbull with this recall, emails, mailings, I have a free oil change coming up, and I refuse to let them touch it, it is problem free, and I intend to keep it that way.

How do you know if the radio is on the latest software? I've noticed that my chime sometimes works as it should. Sometimes it doesn't.

I don't know the current build #, but if you're getting a message to check your camera, when you don't have one, it is definitely the wrong build.
This same exact problem was happening about three years ago, with the Sparks, they were reflashing the radios, and the"camera" notification was coming up, along with the steering wheel controls dying. It's an easy enough fix, but it's the hassle of running back to the dealer. I am a firm believer in, "if it aint broke................."

Any luck fixing this? Mine just started doing this a few days ago. Same symptoms, no temp display and not audio control on the steering wheel. My car is a ‘15 LTZ and I had the recall done once during a free oil change. It also does the weird chime sometime thing

Same thing happened to me. I disconnected the negative terminal of the battery for a minute or so and nothing changed. Later I disconnected both the negative and positive for a good two hours and luckily that rectified the problem. Both the steering wheel radio/phone controls and temperature came back. Thank you for the suggestion.

Hi, mine went out last week and I disconnected the battery for 2 hours. Overkill I'm sure but 1 minute didn't work. That cleared the problem for now anyway.

When I took it to GM dealer they had to update the software on the MyLink charged me $95 for it sigh.

So I disconnected both the positive and negative cables and left it that way for two hours. Reconnected them and viola, the steering wheel volume, source, and call controls are now working. Also, the Onstar icon reappeared. Strangely though the temperature did not show up, although the spot for it was there. It took me going to the store to shop and then starting the car again for it to show up, but it did.

Oh, and now the guidelines are back for the rearview camera, which disappeared when the software was updated for the chime issue.

Thanks for the tip on the battery, saved me time from going to the dealer and probably getting gouged.

Clarifying my last post, the temperature gauge is now working. Not sure if it needed a car turn off and on, but it's now working after making a quick trip to the store. But thanks for the info!

I have the same issue along with no odometer. Uplugging the battery for a day didn't work. What is it the solution

Not sure why, but the temp sensor is always slow to come on, even with the older models with lower-grade radios. If you disconnect the battery for service work, the temp sensor takes a while to come back, but it does come back.
