High Mileage Sonics - the longevity thread

2013 1.4L auto, currently at 104k miles.

There it lists any issues I've had as a stock car before the powertrain warranty expired. I've tracked the rough idle down to a worn PVC check valve in the intake manifold.

2012 1.8 with 114K miles and counting. Did the timing belt at 100k. This is my wifes car and she's been in a couple good accidents, i will say this car has held up to prove itself worthy to hold on to.

Trifecta tuned since 2013
New tires...
Replaced anti sway bar linkage ($20)...
Cab water leak fixed under warranty in 2013...
Still on original brake pads and rotors!

No other issues (knock on wood)!
Still getting 40+ MPG

Once in awhile, I hear a knock at right front wheel. Happens over small bumps. I suspect it’s either a stabalizer bar end link or ball joint. These are things that are expected (normal wear and tare) when you are up there with the miles.
Car still runs like a champ..

barely made it to 94000km's / 58,000 miles? , intake pcv ,turbo pcv ( this is known issues tho) BUT ---> transmission issues (exact I don't know till taken apart. ) … among other things

now I know bad vehicles exsist and it was purchased used, sometimes people trade in for a reason other then cause they want to. I have owned brand new lemon's aswell .. again transmission and drivetrain mostly haha ..

Aug 28th/18 UPDATE: Transmission has a full rebuild 2800 bucks warranty I purchased covered it tho .. had other issues but its running like a new car now that everything that GM messed up on was fixed, bypassed or removed :O hahah been almost a week since I got it back only problem I noticed is mpg... won't drop below 10L/100km on dash .. yet doing the math of driving its getting about 7l/100k average .. @*)^(*@^$( stupid computers....

Just rolled over 140k on my 2012 1.8 LTZ Sedan. Unfortunately she's starting to fall apart. One thing after another.

Just rolled over 85,000 in my 2012 1.4 M6 LTZ. Only mod is a CAI, amp+door speakers. Regular oil changes with Mobil 1 and almost exclusively highway driven. So far have only replaced end links, trans fluid,tires and front pads. Definitely now needs new rotors and rear shoes, suspension, ( thanks to Michigan roads). Have a throttle dependent whining sound from behind driver seat now too. Probably fuel pump, which is my fault as I run the car low on fuel a lot bc my daily drive is 50-100 miles. Probably should do the pcv mod, serpetine, and plugs though.

Could be they just commute a lot. I have a 2013 ford focus that I use to commute 100 miles per day(sometimes we take the sonic so that lessens the amount of miles). My focus had 16,000 miles when I got it around February 2015. Now it's pushing 91,000. If I had to drive it every day I'm sure it would be more than that. My wife got a job where I work at, so we sometimes take our 2016 sonic, we got that when she had another job and we went opposite directions.

But on the sonic we've already got nearly 54,000 miles. I think we got it around October 2016. Sometimes we leave one car parked for a week or more. It seems though from what I've read that highway miles are easier on a car than city miles. In other words get on the interstate, set the cruise etc vs stop and go is not as bad for the car. I need to get at least 3 more years from each car. Though if I could take them to 350,000 each, that would be great. The sonic had a cooling fan replaced under extended warranty a couple of weeks back. Hopefully it behaves for a while.

Mainly for us though, trying to watch the oil changes and tire rotations and will try to stick to maintenance schedule as I am able. I've started running high mileage oil in the focus already. Sticking to Synthetic Blend in both cars as that was what came as the factory fill. So in the focus I'm running Quaker State High Mileage, and changing between 5000-7000 miles. The sonic I'll switch over to high mileage as it gets older.

most I have done roughly converted is 98k miles .. ina year .. that was doing pizza deliveries in a 95 neon :O that's only reason I said that lol .. but atleast it still got 30~ mpg intown.. not the crappy 21 im getting from my pos Sonic on the last tank.... anyway ..

When mine dropped that low, that's when I discovered that I had the common torn air intake hose

if I reset it and go on a trip highway is great.. 40+ but intown idk.. friggen turbo's lol give me a SRT4 no problem I can figure out dodge like nothing.. but this argh... worked for a Chrysler specialist for 12 years :O

but I mostly go based on fuel/distance calculated at fillup over the dash....
