They must have just dumped a full 5 quarts in there.
Well, at least they didn't do as bad as a couple of mishaps at local dealerships/shops I recently heard about:
1) A woman had the oil changed in her truck at a local dealership. The man changing the oil drained the old oil, put a new filter on, and forgot to fill it up and the engine seized up before the customer got it home.
2) A man had his Nissan Altima taken in for an oil change. When he got it back, he noticed it was shifting funny and the engine wasn't running right. Turns out, the technician drained the tranny, and dumped oil in so it was overfilled to 12 quarts of oil!
It seems to me that these technicians are in too much of a hurry and forget one of the most important parts; Check the oil level after you're done, just to make sure you've done everything right! This is why I hate commission work.
Even after doing all my oil changes, which I have never made a mistake, but I always double check behind myself just to make sure. Sometimes, after installing the filter and getting ready to put oil in, I even go back under the car and make sure the plug is in tight, and re-check the oil filter before adding the oil. Then, of course, I check the level after I'm done to make sure I put in the right amount.
This is basic stuff, the fact that these "professionals" are not doing it is scary.
