Rebuilt the engine on a 1.4T 2012 Sonic after the head gasket blew. Rebuilt M32 transmission also. Car runs fantastic, trans is quiet, engine is smooth and getting about 35mpg on daily commute. No engine codes, or exhaust smoke...
.... but I have an oil leak from my valve cover. The valve cover has been replaced and is genuine GM along with the gasket. I also have the check valve intake modification and it is oriented correctly to pass air from the valve cover into the intake manifold. If I disconnect the check valve hose from the 'T' fitting to the brake boost, I can suck on it but not blow.
The hose from the intake manifold to the turbo inlet is also working. The check valve in that hose allows air to pass from the intake into the turbo but not the other way around.
Both of these together mean I shouldn't be building any significant pressure in my valve cover yet...... I only get the oil leak when accelerating and making boost. I used a stethoscope camera to monitor the front of the engine while driving and can clearly see the oil sneak out from under the valve cover seal just to the left of the dip stick. It's not the dip stick seals which are also new, it is coming out from the seal between the valve cover and the head.
I realize there's a significant span between the two bolts in that area so maybe a design shortcoming, but even so, the valve cover shouldn't build pressure and force oil out..... and yet it is under boost.
Any ideas on next steps to resolve it? Is there a valve cover mod to vent the valve cover into a catch can?
Help?
