Best phone mount???

Hi guys, I’m a full time Uber/Lyft driver with my Sonic and on a previous post there was a phone mount off amazon that was perfect for the little cubby areas to the left and right of the stereo. I have an iPhone 8 Plus and I can baaaarely get my phone into that phone mount and now after a month or two of using it, the round sticky disk is coming apart [emoji849] just wondering, anyone with a similar phone have a better solution as far as a phone mount goes? I have the 2012 Sonic, not with the touchscreen stereo but the previous. I’ll attach a picture of it. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!

I'm at work but if you pull out the socket halfway it will hang from the pocket beside the radio. That little cubby has enough of a lip that the phone doesn't go anywhere. If you haven't figured it out by the time I get home I'll try to get a pic.

For a phone mount, I got the Scoche. It has stayed on very well. Just make sure you clean the spot several times with a clean paper towel and some non residue cleaner. I used CRC Manifold Air Flow sensor cleaner. Does not attack plastics and leaves no residue.

Here's something else you might be interested in.
An Uber camera that can record pictures both inside and forward through the windshield. I have one since last December and it works well. If you get one, stick with a high quality Samsung or other 32GB micro SD memory card for it.

That’s awesome!! I couldn’t help but notice the gauges... is that how the new models are?? The one thing that really bugs me about this car is the lack of gauges! Temp gauge specifically...

Just get some CRC Manifold Air Flow sensor cleaner and use it to clean any spot you want to mount a "sticky" pad. Clean 3 times at least. .. .

Yes if I could have just one more gauge it would be a temp gauge. Maybe if they do a new version some day...2021? We’ll just have to see...

The main reason for my phone mount, interestingly, is so I could mount a "spare" phone there, load the Torque Pro app and display Water Temp gauge, transmission Temp, and whatever other gauges that are available.
The BAFX OBD II module in the first picture I posted is a Bluetooth interface that allows display of sensor information, Diagnostic Codes (DTC), O2 Sensor readings, data logging, etc.
I haven't played with it extensively, but it is invaluable.

The picture with the dash showing actually has a 7" tablet mounted in the picture. The magnetic mount is strong enough to hold that when placed in the right position.

Towards the top. Just low enough to stay out of the cameras way. I'll add that I'm not using my phone for anything unlike Jtee. His setup is def better for usage.

I have mine placed toward the middle of my phone and this is how it’s sitting. A bit difficult to see the whole screen with the steering wheel in the way but at the right angle it’s perfect. Thanks so much! Attached pictures for anyone reading this thread curious of how it looks from a driving perspective.

The main thing is. . the dash surface must be very clean with not previous "UV" dash treatment, cleaner, etc residues. The CRC MAF sensor cleaner is terrific for something like this and other jobs. Just get some clean paper towels, spray on the towel, wipe in a larger circle than needed and repeat two more times with a new paper towel. Alcohol, mineral spirits, and other solvents will leave residue you can't even see. If those are used, the adhesive will eventually let go. Also, good for washing down the actual MAF sensor once a year or so.
Oh . . . try an make sure the interior and dash is warmed up inside first and once you're ready to stick the mount on. .. do a "dry fit" a few times with the backing still on the adhesive pad to gauge where exactly you want it. Then remove the adhesive backer and kind of apply the mount with a slight rocking motion so the adhesive pad gets applied evenly.

Then Press. . press . . . press it down many times.
I would also wait at least 1 or 2 days before using it and press the mount down a few times during those days to assure a firm mount. Once that pad is stuck down. . it will be very hard to remove.
I use this same cleaner on electronic circuit boards and other delicate plastic surfaces as well for several years now. It is akin to a freon type cleaner which is key for leaving no residue behind.

Well, not really needed to clean the whole dash unless yo want all coatings off of it. If your dash is in good shape, cleaning with a good vinyl cleaner would be best. Or maybe wash it with a dampened sponge and some mild detergent. .. . rinse well 2 or more times. Then maybe apply a vinyl cleaner/conditioner.

I use two products depending on the use. Both leave just slight sheen, but not greasy. I tend to use the Meguair's inside and 303 on outside vinyl and rubber. 303 is probably better. Both work well on tires sidewalls and exterior vinyl trim as well . .. after thorough cleaning.
