I have a 2013 Chevy sonic. We have found the leak. The vaccine line that goes into the top of the thermostat housing snapped off looks like it has been leaking for awhile. I have a limited lifetime warranty on it hopefully it will be replaced. However the question is I'm looking to replace the vacuum line but can't for the life of me find out what it is called. Also the next question is would the whole housing need to be replaced or just the hose? It looks as if the hose has broken off down in the housing.

There are no vacuum lines coming off of the thermostat... Try attaching a picture so we can see what you're trying to describe.

That's not a vac line. That's a coolant connection. You will have to replace that whole assembly. It's a very common point of failure in these cars. The DIY is very easy though.

That's both the frustration and beauty of our Sonics.
Plazz-tech parts under the hood exposed to high heat that makes them brittle and then break.
But low cost and mostly easy to replace better parts to keep 'em running.
And. .. . thanks to this Forum . .. we are privy to most all the stuff that needs watching.
Know of several Sonics that are at or over 100,000 miles. Even if you had to put $1,000 into maintenance and repairs on a 6 or 7 year old Sonic that's pretty low cost.

The 2014 Sonic in our family also had the thermostat/housing replaced under warranty at 77,000 miles. One the GM replacement part, the T-stat was metal, but the attached housing still appeared to be plastic. Unless it was painted.

I bought a spare after market one on Ebay and the whole thing is metal. I also have a spare OEM GM metal T-stat I can use if needed. Cheaper than an extended warranty.

Ended up not being the housing it was the throttle body heater inlet pipe ordered one from Amazon now we wait thanks everyone

It looks like the new Sonics made a lot of changes under the hood to combat this. My 2012 Cruze didn’t have the stuff on it from the one in the photo and my 2019 Sonic looks like it is all metal.

For what it’s worth my Cruze had this issue crop up once in 117,000 miles and was a low cost fix.
