2014 Sonic Idle

I recently purchased a 2014 1.8 Sedan.

I have seen many issues posted, with idling rough and surges randomly at idle. When I checked for codes... none, but the idle was out of range... according to Service Department it should be at 800 to 1000 rpm... mine is at 650 rpm at idle. In gear or park.

I seen DYI fixes ranging from replacing Valve cover (PCV)... to a complete bypass of PCV.

Contacted Chevrolet Dealer... they words.. "No Check Engine light.. or codes... not problem."

Any thoughts as to a fix... vehicle is out of warranty.

Same here, I installed PCV bypass kit and a new valve cover, but didn't solve the issue. I am wondering if it is piston rings or head gasket for me unfortunately.

Have you had the idle settings. Mine is at 650rpm. Chevrolet says it's low... should be at 800-1000rpm. Also, the transmission may not be engaging the clutch consistently. (Automatics)

I'm having it serviced tomorrow... will let you know how it goes.

I forgot... they also said it sounds like a misfire on cylinder #2. We will see.

I had a bunch of codes for o2 sensors and CAT. my idle is 800. I have a dealer tool, I cleaned and reset my throttle body

Small vacuum leaks can cause idling issues without setting codes. If the leak gets larger it usually throws a system too lean, random cylinder missfire and o2 sensor faults. Take some starting fluid and spray around vacuum lines and connections. Also disconnect the EVAP purge solenoid inlet line to see if the solenoid failed open. Had one do that and kick my ass for a day because it was pulling air in from the EVAP canister.
