mystery tab

Hi all. First post, so small intro: have had my Sonic for only 1 week. Its a Cyber gray metallic LT, Auto, turbo. I noticed a small tab behind and to the right of the gear shifter. No mention of it in the manual and did not see it on this forum. Any one know what it is for?

im not sure of the actual specifics of it as i don't own an auto but i know its something to do with an over ride for the safety so you cant shift out park without the brake pedal down.

I thought it might be acces to some sort of override but not sure of what or how it would work. I did pop off the cover, but didn't really look inside to investigate.

I have one in my auto, looks like if you take if off there might be a screw that bolts the tri
Down into place, just my thought.

First Of All Hope You Are Enjoying The Car. If For Some Reason You're Car Won't Run And You Need To Get It Rowling (A.K.A. Onto A Flatbed Tow Truck) You Put Your Key In The Slot That The Tab Is Covering And Then You Can Put The Gear Shifted Into N. It's Also In The Manual. Hope That Helps.

Trevor... Awesome. Thank you. What section of the manual is that in? I looked in all photos and drawings of that area and it wasn't pointed out, at least not that I noticed.

Yes trim, dam phone. And I was curious and went and popped it off, seems to. Be true about the putting the car into neutral if you need tow. Put my key in and it shifts. Only thing is anything put into the slot will activate this

It should be in the transmission section of your manual. This feature is actually pretty standard on modern automatics.

That tab is so for whatever reason the transmission locks up and wont come out of park. Just pop that cover, put the key in, turn it and shift to nuetral. then start the car in neutral and then shift the car to whatever gear you want. After that it should be unlocked and can go back to shifting it as you were. Sometimes the system will lock up and you have to use this to unlock it. The Old Chevrolet Aveo's had this feature. My brothers aveo had locked up several times and wouldnt come out of park and once he did what i stated, it would shift again. Hope this helps you all out.

Also if the gear acts up and don't go into park there is a key release as well just features with our auto if it falls
